I saw this topic and I almost wet myself with joy. I'm a great fan of beach landing maps, and I enjoy watching the attempts. I await the creation of THE map. Anyway, I saw it was done by Enjoy, and I figured the time had come for THE map.

However, it looks half assed. Don't get me wrong Enjoy, its probably one of the better ones, but the colouring is plain and boring. NOT your best work. Make it a bit more spanky, use your skills, then I might download.

Well, he did do it in like a Day. But if somebody could bloody waypoint the bloody map (*Looks at Stalky*) that I've linked in my previous bloody post we could have the bloody D-Day map!....Bloody..

It doesn't really matter what you do when it comes to making a Normandy map. People will still say that it isn't THE D-day map...yet they can't supply a valid reason why.

Meh, whatever. I made my attempt at it, so have fun making your own and being told it isn't "The One".

I used my "skills". Someone else show me their skills. Then maybe I can learn how to map.

Btw: my only gripe about the other is how he "forgot" to add the beach in the map...(just in case you didn't know, Omaha Beach IS REALLY A BEACH...) his D-Day map has no real beach...just a few inches before the steep climb up the "mountain" that leads into a humongous fortress that in real life wasn't that big. It's good, but doesn't seem historically correct IMO. Mine isn't even correct; I just tried to make it a little more glamourous.

I could go back and make the beach red and yellow and blue and make it shaded perfectly...however...Normandy isn't like that. Half-assed? More like Three-fourths-assed. But I don't know what else I could add, and seeing as how no one has anything to say but "it isn't The One", I can't really fix it. :-/

Constructive criticism is cool...one should try employing it some time.

Well... EI, you made one of the best D-Day map, the map is fun and the sand texture is great. However, I expected something more...

- the sea (or ocean, whatever) looks like a puddle
- the map has a huge polybug, a good camping spot for defending team
- some sceneries are placed above the ground
- bot waypoints don't work for attacking team
- IMO you should do more shading and texture stretching

But I like the map, because it is very playable in my opinion.

Was the map you were talking about Inf_OmahaTrench enjoyicubus? That sounded like my map...heheh......

Your map is good, but it seems so small kinda, maybe make a village beyond the bunkers?

Enjoy, you sound stressed, chill out man, I wasn't having a dig.

1) I don't like the way the entire map is different shades of the same colour. The beach should be that colour, but the rest would look nicer if it was brown and grey. Try changing the texture to be grey coloured instead of sand coloured, that will remove limitations.

2) Polygon stretching is sweet sometimes. Although I haven't played the map, I can't see any stretches. Try them in tunnels, works wonders to make it look 3d.

3) I never really had high opinions on a D-day map which didn't use transparent scenery to make a sea. Blue coloured polygons look rancid in a realistic map.

4) The beach should have a hell of a lot more blood stained sand on it [:D]. A little puddle of it near the bunker is not enough...remember how many people were thrown into the assaults in WW2, and how many people died?

5) I like round maps, but you can reach the extent a map is TOO round. Try adding some angular rocks in there (see Bunker map, below the bunker).

Sooner or later i'll try my go at it, until then i'll have to hold on to yours.

I thought Normandy was when there were parachutes... Ha, i'm gonna fail history....

No, you're right, there were paratroopers. They dropped behind the enemy lines on D-Day. There is a Series of Films called 'Band of Brothers' which is based on the paratroopregiment 'Easy Company', which parachuted into France on D-Day.
