If you had bought $1000.00 of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now
be worth $49.00.
With Enron, you would have $16.50 of the original $1,000.00.
With Worldcom, you would have less than $5.00 left.
If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser (the beer, not the
stock) one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00.
Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily
and recycle.
This is my new retirement program, I call it my 401Keg program

Yeah, this thread's gone to [:-censored]...
But in all seriousness, you should invest in AMD. :)
I invested $1000 in AMD in February 2003. I got it at just over $4 a share.
The stock has grown to almost $17 a share now. That's quite a growth for a safe bet like AMD.
Expect it to go even higher with the immersion of 64 Bit programs into our everyday lives. AMD is currently the only microprocessor company to offer a 64 bit chip for PC.
It's still a good buy. I think it's going to reach $30 by the end of this year...I just wish I would have put more on this "bet".

Intel's premium chips are better for games (not those crappy Celerons, unfortunately for me), AMD is better for price.
