Prolly been suggested b4 now, but...

You should be able to toggle spectator mode on and off as you play. This way AFKers could switch to spectator mode without having to leave the server, which would really be helpful. I don't think this should be too difficult to implement.

Would definitely be nice, seeing as spectators already take up a player slot (why??).

To keep the server load down. But I find the way the movie recorder is implemented interesting. If you wanna know how I'm gonna post it in the developer area.

I do... it would be the best if you could be a spectator on a full server (maybe like 2 slots extra reserved for spectators + open slots) and as soon as you saw someone leave you could join in immediately. That way ppl wouldn't have to constantly hammer the server trying to get in.
