More maps and specifially, more, bigger, maps.

The only reason i am posting this is because multiplayer numbers are way up, into the 500+ region, and this is good. But people seem to be clustering around certain servers, so we get CTF servers with 33+ people in them. This number of people in the same game would make for a great match, provided there are maps designed to cope for that number of people. Unfortunately there aren't, or not really anyway. Someone should start an extra big class of maps designed for more than 30 people. CTF b2b is a good map for lots of players, but unfortunately it still involves 2 teams just going at each other head on, more or less. If we have 30 people in a game, the map-makers can probably come up with something more complicated than just a two pathway map. Say about 3-4 different pathways - although this would be pushing it. Im not a map designer, so i dont know what these maps would look like. But maybe the mapmakers should try and think less about maps with big open paths you can move along, and more about maps which are more complicated, and more subdivided. Think small passageways and so on, with low rooves, rather than big fighting areas. Think counterstrike - The place is full of small corridors and short-cuts, and so on. Im not sure if this would work, but i would like to see someone try.

So.......... BIGGER, MORE COMPLICATED MAPS PLZ!

P.S. I just had a really good idea. All the current maps are horizontal - someone should think about making a map with the maximum amount of jetfuel, but vertical. I dont mean just straight up and down, but with bits that are vertical (ledges on sides). I just think someone should try it, because i havent seen a map yet where u actually fight to move either upwards or downwards. I think it might have possibilities. Someone tell me if im being an idiot or not.

I don't think bigger maps are feasible until lag issues are obliterated, thus allowing more people on a server.


Otherwise, it doesn't hurt to make another topic demanding more maps...just another hint to the big guy on what we want in soldat.

I love the vertical fighting idea. I've played one of the falling deathmatch maps, that's the only place it's been implemented. ctf_death is more like 360 degree carnage.

EDIT: If vertical fighting becomes a big thing, map makers should be able to control how much thrust the jetboots output too. Also there was another topic somewhere that talked about using your mouse to influence the direction in which you fly, that would be useful too. Could have entirely airbourne battles with everyone trying to get higher than the enemy to get that headshot!

Do you think that with how many "more maps/bigger maps/etc" topics that have been made in the last week he will notice? How could he not?

And about the vertical maps idea... when I first read it I though 'hmmm why?' but then reading it again, it's a really cool idea. If I made maps I would do it ;) In particular a ctf map like that would be pretty cool but it might be a struggle to make it balanced. I have an idea but I can't describe it in words well enough to warrant the effort. Maybe when I get home I'll make a picture (they're worth 1000 words you know).

im going 2 give it a go at makin a vertical map - thats what i mean about more maps - specifically, something different, and not just another bloody horizontal ctf map. and yeah, i was going to say that - ctf death is more like a deathmatch - at least thats how i play it
