Is there a way to either limit the time you have to fly, or turn it off?

I don't know if this is a bug or a setting, but: Is there a way to have the weapon choice screen only pop up when I want it to? Currently, every time I die it pops up, waiting for me to click a weapon. This is incredibly annoying.
