Which is better? There are big differences?
I personally use fireworks, i never tried photoshop...but almost all forum members use it.

Photoshop is more powerful, I use Fireworks, and sometimes I come up against a limitation in the software where I say, I wish I had Photoshop...but Fireworks is easier to use. All the cool graphic plugins in the world are made for Photoshop.

Paint shop Pro if you want it easy or Gimp if you want something really powerful

I personally like Photoshop

Gimp is Photoshop open-source. Supports Photoshop plugins too. Super cool.

yes,i'm seeing that all those wonderful backgrounds like m00's avatar are made with photoshop...i'm going to download it.

I use little progy called Xara X. It's a vector gfx program, so different from your Photoshop or PSP, but still good. m00's sig was made in it :)

Sure you can, specially when there is no way to guess what is better or worst and because I still do not know how to use completely any package. I was just playing with the filters to make that.
But there are lots of things GIMP can do and Photoshop no. Like using the GIMPresionist filter :P.

Photoshop==Gimp >= Fireworks

Photoshop is the same as Gimp and Fireworks seems to not be as good as either... *sometimes* (not that i'm a huge graphics design guy)

GIMP > all. I made my avvy in it, based on spitzfiya's PHOTOSHOP tutorial.

And GIMP is free...there's no need to crack *ahem* buy it unlike the other programs.

Fireworks use...ehm...i think in english it is called "vectorial draw" (?)...anyway...Fireworks is better if you need to use Macromedia Flash

photoshop is my design program.. i'm not changing it for paint shop pro or gimp..
