Hard ground, soft ground...

These suggestion all relate to the option of using hard or soft ground in the map editor. Some of these are editor suggestions, but since most of them are for the actual game, and I'm too lazy to make two topics, I'm including them...
Different types of ground, for example, metal, mud, sand.
Different amounts of damage from falling in realistic mode; hard ground does a significant amount of damage, while soft ground does hardly any, and requires a greater fall.
Different speeds of running, soft ground makes for slower movement.
Bullets and shells don't make a cloud of smoke on soft ground, but make a lump of ground fly out, depending on the polygon colour.
Footsteps on hard ground are way more audible than they are now.
Ricocheting bullets on hard ground- not very far and not much damage, but can still hurt someone if they are close enough.
Grenades bounce more on hard ground
The option of setting diffent ground styles for different polygons (Suggested by Leo Da Lunerfox)
Thats what I can think of off the top of my head, but I'm sure I will come up with more later.

I like all of them, but I think this one could cause (more) net lag:

I'd love the sound of steps on metal / in sand etc. :)

Heh, thanks. (Corrects typo of "very")

This would also be good of bullets kicked up sand and dirt. Have turrets raining down on a beach. Sand flying every where.

I think I covered that in the fourth point...

Dam that was my fav suggestion

I belive that to make all these suggestions useful, we need to have the option of setting diffent ground styles for different polygons. So after you got out of the beach, you wouldn't still be kicking sand off the floor in the base(would be kinda dumb to see that happen).

Damn Luner, knew I'd forgotten something...

Love it love it love it!

This would be soo cool!(gets dreamy eyes)
Hmmmm! If this is implemented, every map would have to be recreated! But who cares! Let every1 else do all the work LOL!

Funny, its not often when everyone supports an idea. Its rather telling, and means that Michal should pay close attention. Mmhmm?

So... anyone have direct links to Michal?

No one could ever possibly shoot down this idea.

It's just way too damn good to ignore.[:-bonc01]

A quicksand-like soft ground would be interesting... If you're prone you wont sink into the ground, if you're crouching 1/4 of your body will sink, and if you're standing 1/2 your body will sink; and when you want to get out, you have to hold the directional key to "climb" out of the sinking effect. Just a tag-on idea.

[sounds could also be altered, hitting concrete would have a meat-hitting-concrete sound, while hitting a metal surface would cause a loud reverberation and sand would have a sand-like movement sound...]

I love this idea..! =)
Someone e-mail Michal M and tell him to look at the thread =)

Don't spam his inbox to get his attention. Either he puts it in, or he doesn't. Just leave it.

it is a rather good idea. but how many different types?
metal
wood
sand
dirt
mud
wetmud(thin lil bit of water on surface, so player splashes about, as do bullets)
leafy ground
rock/concrete

i'd like to see some campers standing in sand, slowly sinking, while i creep up and AK them suckas.
REALLY GOOD IDEA

(maybe even better than 1-way-polys ;D)

Let's not forget ice and snow...

Good idea. Im liking it. Perhaps also different ric noises, so instead of standard "pow" noises we could have metallic thuds or gravelly rattles as bullets hit different ground types.

Well, we could start helping Michal by searching for "free" sounds (that can be used in a (semi-?)commercial game like Soldat) or even recording..
