I got this idea when I was on a DM on bridge. I was in the left/middle overhand and someone through grenades and then fired the m79 3 explosions blew me clear off the land. Now here is my proposal.

A slow mo death only occurs when a head shot or death by explosion.
You can "cancel" by pressing the left mouse button.

ns idea...and i can already picture it........h.o.............eating ritz crakces with philadelphia.....................ok - it sounds really cool and it would be nicer if it even zoomed in on ther person who died and see a repeat of that death in slow motion while the counter for respawn is still working...my vote

Oh, I ljust mean when you die and you only see it so it doesn't stop the game

nice shot idea?...ok

and i don't it should/could zoom in with out looking like crap.
and this sounds like it would be better in the demo. because if it is only happening on your screen what would your fellow players see?

and when n00b5 k33p clicking it would cancel very fast and prolly be only slow mo fer a sec and they think they r laggin..

Has My vote in Demos..hahaha (laughs @ self)

maybe it will show death fast and then play back on your screen slow again.

This would be especially cool since you'd just be waiting to respawn anyway (although I like to look around during that time).

I can remember *one* topic about this, so nvm :)

this is a pretty neat idea and nothing to worry about if it's an client-side option.
What happens when you're still watching the replay but the respawn time is over?

DT
May 11, 2004, 3:47 pm
yea to see you die slow mo..

Maybe you could either just finish watching the replay (you would still respawn and be vulnerable) or just click to end the replay or something.

Or maybe michal could just not implement this idea because it's more trouble than it's worth.

what about a replay from a "rare death" i dunno how to explain a rare death but something u dont see everyday.. like a replay when u die and wait for the respawn time

I think replay should start automatically if respawn time > 6 sec.

The LAST thing I want to see is how my head got shot off by a camper 5 times in slow motion.

DeMonIc
May 31, 2004, 3:44 pm
Hmm... u gotta point there...
Solution 1,: Don't look there
Solution 2,: Press mouse button so the rep would be skipped
Solution 3,: Analyze the bullet trail, so u will know where the mutafukin camper is.

Indeed..a good suggestion. Those 15 sec. respawns could be a little more entertaining. I think the decision is fairly uniform..kudos to you.

ok thad be wierd to other people...

They just see this blood floating through the air all slow...

Maybe when your blown up its goes slow for like 1/2 a second then the blood goes fast and splattes over stuff...

think about it!

kilroy1501
July 1, 2004, 7:47 pm
and if they saw you diying the same way 3 times in a row.... thats just freaky

b00stA
July 1, 2004, 7:57 pm
kilroy, don't double post. Use the [IMAGE] edit function.

Other people would NOT see YOUR death in slow-mo. Only you see your death in slow-mo.

kilroy1501
July 3, 2004, 5:28 am
then on your screen the blood would be there, but on thiers its gone?

it wouldnt corrilate

think about it it wouldnt work, everything would have to go in slow mo

wormdundee
July 3, 2004, 6:51 am
kilroy, on their screen you would die normally, using the normal effects and such

on your screen, you would die in slow motion, it wouldnt have to be synchronized at all
the slow-motion would show your death until your respawn time is up

b00stA
July 3, 2004, 2:13 pm
kilroy, please start using the [IMAGE] function instead of double posting.

Believe me, it would work. It's just a small replay. Your client doesn't send any information while waiting for the respawn anyway.

kilroy1501
July 3, 2004, 11:45 pm
would it just be you going in slow mo?

also if the sound frequency slowed down itd be cool

or if all the battle sounds are cut and all you can hear is your scream and your guts flying... maybe an extra sound like the ringing you get when your hit with a gernade

Niff
July 5, 2004, 4:46 am
Nice idea.

July 9, 2004, 1:32 am
Good idea. I think it would be cool to also see the camera follow the killing bullet/nade in slow-mo and zoomed in (if possible). It would be fun to watch long rang kills. [:P]

I like the idea i just would never be able to use it......i never die.

kilroy1501
July 11, 2004, 9:53 pm
ok if someone shot your body it wouldnt work because you would be in a different spot on your screen then in thier screen.

kevith
July 11, 2004, 11:05 pm
Is this really that difficult to understand? When YOU die, YOUR computer would show a slo-mo replay of YOUR death while waiting for YOUR respawn time to end. Nobody else would see YOUR replay. They can still shoot your dead body and everything will be fine because you are just watching a REPLAY. Pretend it's a basketball game or something. When they show a replay on TV, the game is still going on even though YOU'RE watching a replay... you're just not seeing the "live action." The idea is that this would work because you aren't doing anything while waiting to repawn.

Famine
July 12, 2004, 12:52 am
Like this...when you loose all your health(die) then the computer records a few seconds and plays it back in slowmo until the respawn comes.

July 12, 2004, 2:55 am
Guys, you know how when you turn the Sniper Line option on, you're the only one that can see your sniper line. Others can't. This can be the exact same, and it has a nice little spot right below 'Sniper Line' in the 'Options' tab.

Edit: Lol, Jeez, listen to b00sta. <_< I found that ironic.

Here's an interesting question... When would the slo-mo start? If you think about it, if it's after you lose all your health, then it's pretty boring, because all you're watching is a flying body. Still, it's a real nice idea.

Edit: Maybe the system can be constantly recording, and it would take the last 1.5 seconds before your death, and include that into your replay. After your game, all that was recorded is automatically discarded. How's that?

Hiei
July 12, 2004, 3:00 am
yea make it an optoin very good idea though....

That's good. Do you know why? If Michal managed to do that, he could easily implement this extremely good idea too:
Auto demo-record feature

Kazuki
July 12, 2004, 12:56 pm
Yeah, I thought about that too. Would be a great double whammy.

Edit: Bumping this up. Will someone please PM Michal about this, or has he seen it and not replied?

kevith

Well b00stA emailed him about the auto-record thing didn't he? Maybe he would be willing to email this to him too.

Nope, I didn't. What you think of is my suggestion list I once sent to Michal (probably the reason why we have a demo function and a spectator mode). I'm still collecting a few things, then I will send the new list to Michal.

Kazuki
July 13, 2004, 10:25 pm
k, Nice, I'm just bumping it up. It's one of the better ideas.

papasurf31
July 14, 2004, 4:23 pm
I like this idea and would look really cool but i have a few problems/changes.

1.)The replay should end automatically when the respawn time is up, so as not to intrude on game time. Alternately, the person would respawn when the replay was over so it wouldn't intrude on game ntime. OR, the game could sound a chime or something to tell the player that thye reapawn time is up in case the player is to engrossed in the replay (unlikely, but with people like Kazuki...)

2.)Slo-mo replays would be kinda weird if sounds weren't slowed down also. And, unless I'm wrong, That would mean there would have to be a copy of every single sound effect in the game that was at like 1/4 speed or something. Sound files take up space. Lots of space. Not so much a problem as a minor peeve of mine. This would not affect online play if it were client only but if they had to be broadcasted through the server.(see #4)

3.)There should be a button in say the lower left corner of the screen that will appear when you die. This way, the player could have a choice whether or not to play the replay or if they want to watch the other players.

4)The person who killed the player might also be able to see the replay if he or she wanted to, like as a mini-screen in a corner or something. This way, he could still play at the same time as watch his most recent victim die. This might cause lag because the replay would have to be sent from the dying player to the killing player.

July 17, 2004, 4:19 pm
Nice idea, you could do something like have the replay do 1.5 seconds before the death, then 3.5 after the death. And depending on how long the respawn is, is how slow the replay is. get it? so those 5 seconds would be stretched to whatever time was available, so if you had one of those blasted 15 second respawns, it would go slow and you'd see it in detail. If the sounds a problem, I wouldn't mind not having the sounds. *shrugs*. Again, cool idea

July 18, 2004, 11:03 pm
why not just do it like in UT 2004/03, where the game still goes on at the normal pace, but the dead body slows down, i think that would be quite cool, you can have all this stuff going on while this body i slowly flying backwards due to an explosion or something. extra buttons and stuff would just complicate things, part of what makes soldat fun is that its easy and simple.
