The first official Race mappack is here! *overworked version online*

Simplified Rules set up (see below mappack description).

Maps included:
(Alphabetical order)

rce_Amazonas (grand_diablo) - EASY
Rather simple but fun jungle race map.

rce_Ashes (grand_diablo) - MEDIUM
Straight, but sometimes evil. Watch out for the holes!

rce_Bricks (grand_diablo) - MEDIUM
Not too dangerous, but fun map with a huuuge jump.

rce_Hole (grand_diablo) - EASY to MEDIUM
Acrobatics needed, go down as fast as you can.

rce_LOL (grand_diablo/Ville Mk2) - EASY to MEDIUM
Map inspired by Ville's LOL creatures and comics.

rce_LostTemple (Sticky) - HARD
Hardest map of the pack. Beautiful and challenging.

rce_Squid (Ville Mk2) - MEDIUM
Dark and not too easy map.

rce_Winter (grand_diablo) - MEDIUM
Beautiful and rather straight map.

Race mode
---------
As the name says, the aim of the "Race" mode, is to
be the fastest one and reach the goal before the others
do so. Race is based on the ctf mode, where both teamflags
at the same place represent the "goal" to reach.

Race maps have the pretag "rce_" (for example "rce_Pathway").
The server settings are the following:

Time Limit: 4
Respawn: 2 secs
Cap Limit: 5
No weapons, boxing is not allowed
Max Grenades: 0


Official Race modes:
--------------------

>> 1 on 1 race:
good to be played in some kind of leagues or tournaments.
Every player chooses a map. 3 races are run each map. For
every win, a player gets one point. The one with higher over-
all score after all 6 races wins. 3-3 results in a tie, which
leads to a decisive race on a map of both player's choice. If
the players can't agree on one map, it will be chosen randomly
or by an admin of the tournament.

>> 2 on 2 race:
Another league/tournament mode.
Every team chooses 1 map. Every player of each team faces
every player of the other team in a 1on1 (4 races/map) . The
team with highest overall score in the end wins. 4-4 results
in a tie, which has the same consequences as in a 1on1 race if
its a tournament match.

>> Mass start
A mode perfectly suited for running a server. People just all
start on the same place and race. They join in and leave just
as they want.

The complete mod should have a counter from start on till reaching the finish,
would be easier to see how much time u needed.


btw, are all the maps who want to get in diablos mappack so damn good looking like
this one? because im just making an own map ;) but its my first, so it isnt realy
so pretty like the temple

In order to play the race gametype, don't you have to play CTF?

And in order to play ctf, don't you need to rename the maps??

So how does this system work?

Its in a DM... you can still place red and blue flags in a deathmatch gametime.

if there will be a mod one day, u dont have to play it on ctf or what ever,
there will be an own gamestyle, but at the moment, we (me diablo and others)
played it on ctf just with /map rce_...
but u can also play it on dm tdm and so on

Edit: Btw can i use deadly polygons. They might be quite annoying and fuke up someones race but i don't think that matters. :D

Edit2: I really don't care about that deadly poly thing anymore. Maps finished.

rce_Volcania (Rambo 6)
rce_Pathway (Ville Mk2. I renamed the file to rce_Pathway, cause in "original lenght" Soldat crashes when i try to restart on this map. The name itself (as seen in the Map description is still "PathwayToGlory"). I also lowered the final "room" a bit, cause it was almost impossible to properly jump there, due to being thrown back by the thin polygosn before the entrance).
rce_Hell (SigHunter. This one will be overworked by him, so we have to wait a little while till the pack is ready).

All in all it makes up "only" seven, cause there aint more maps handed in in the contest. As SigHunter will need 2-3 days i guess, there is still a chance for another map being included into this Race mappack.

Finally it is done, the First Offical Race Mappack is released!

I also made the rules simpler and easier to understand. To fill it up to 8 maps, i worked a bit on rce_Ashes and included it into the pack. There is also a soldat.ini and mapslist.txt as premodified files for ppl who wanna set up a race server.

I've decided to give up on rce_chute. Anyone else can use that idea and make a map like mine.

I also have another map that i can't quite get working. Its an Ice proning map and the player always gets stuck. Someone plase make it work!

Just wanted to announce, that a new mappack version will be released in 2-3 weeks. If someone wants to contribute a good rce map, dont hesitate. Ill try to a) make a new Race Map and b) improve the others of mine. Also the Racing league has started (see tournaments forum)

I might start a RCE map, though what it'll be like is unknown as of now. We'll see what happens as time goes on.

So far I'm thinking it starts with a big icy slope that you can slide down, then a load of "moguls" (like speedbumps, but worse) in quick succession (think the last part of Halo. There's a room with lots of indents on the floors. Makes your Warthog buck like a bronco.) that'll be icy to make it harder, and a few spike pits (slightly closed over, but a big enough hole to fall down) for added "bugger".

Perhaps I'll call it RCE_IceRun... we'll see ^~

Correction:

I have now made said map and it's polgyonned, shaded and spawned.

What's the votes on doodahs like crates? Lots, none? A few?

Oh, and there are three spike pits for those with overzealous boosters. I suggest you unprone before the end of the slopes, otherwise you'll boost to avoid falling in and you'll just jet into them. [:D] The spikes have been shaded with a blood effect, and are set to "Bloody Deadly". Laugh at foes whilst you realise that it's too late to avoid falling in yourself.

Anything that isn't Bloody Deadly is Ice. Watch your step! Oh, and do NOT play with Realistic on it whatsoever. The final fall is pretty far. Think "15 storey building" for a little Soldat.

It should be compatible with all gamemodes except Infiltration. Ie, it has the yellow flag if you want a single objective. The ending chamber is filled with spikes too, so one wrong move and you're over the edge. Lethally so. Added the Rambo Bow, Medikit and 'nade spawners at the very end on the final platform. The victors get to blow their enemies onto the spikes!

There are no crates on race maps, medicits and grenades are set to 0.

Cause the floor is buggy, and that part with that extended roof is somehow strange. But you can either edit Junglehell or make a new one, and in case its good, itll be added to the next mappack version.

Yes, all this talk of a pubby has gotten me... excited. Thus, I declare this week... "Holdens Public Server Race Mahthingy." I will put up a server tuesday to thursday (3/8-5/8). The server will be up from 10.00 to 14.00.

Now, what I need is someone telling me just how the mass start will work best. Try to reply before tomorrow, or just join in at 10.00. The server will stay up those four hours, but I would like to see as many people as possible coming in there.

We will be playing the entire cycle of race maps. Look for it in ASE. The server will be called "Race Server", so it shouldn't be so hard to locate. Have fun everyone! I'm hoping to see many familiar faces.


EDIT: I'm talking 10.00-14.00 CET! You Americans who want to play...well...hm...for me, the time on this forum is ONE HOUR ahead, which means that if it's 11.00 on this forum, then it's 10.00 on my server. Um...yeah.

I dunno if thats possible, but it would be best if all ppl were forced into one and the same team, so no one could start fistkilling. caplimit should be lowered to 1, mode ctf.

yup, u need a real dedicated server, not the client version,
otherwise u cant start the server in ctf

start ctf and do a mapcycle with the race maps, then change with
the admintool on a race map,
