****betting REAL MONEY on soldat****
Soldat Forums - Soldat Talk - General Discussions

although new to these forums, ive heard some intermitant talk of "play money" gambling on sodlat duels/wars. Although this is a novel idea, im not quite sure i understand the support behind it...

obviously many soldat'ers are children, some of which never worked a day in their life. everything they own is thanks to their parents - meaning they dont have any money of their own (thus making real money betting out of the question).

but for those of us who are older, and are sitting on small nest eggs of $$bling$$ $$bling$$, the thrill of this play money is absent completely [V].

so here is my proposition: REAL MONEY BETTING.

much like the play money set-up, duels will be posted in the forums. now because of the online-nature of this betting, there will be no "house" (ie - the casino), meaning there are no "blind bets". if there is a particular match comming up between A vs Z and you think that A will win, you must find someone who thinks that Z will win, and you guys can agree on a wager.

thanks to online banking companies like www.paypal.com, real money betting overseas is possible .

now before 100 people respond telling me how unethical and unstable this idea [xx(] is let me just say that im an "adult" by law (over 18 yrs old) and have a right to do whatever i please with my money. I know there will be a lot of doubters that think this won't work because of non-paying people, but if we regulate this vigorously in the forums, we can weed-out any of the non-payers, hence developing a community of legitamate PAYING betters. [:D]

I can't be arsed to bet with fake money...it just doesnt get me excited. although this is just an idea, i'd like to see everyone's opinion on it, and see something could be made from it. With some community support, honesty, and excitement, i know real-money betting could grow exponentially.

please feel free to respond and leave whatever feedback you wish [;)]

I love the idea, it's what I wanted to do in the first place. However, cause there aren't, as you said, many adults on the forum, plus it's probably illegal, I didn't think it would work. However, if there is enough support for this, and it's proven not to be illegal, then I'd/We'd love to do it.

Betting with money is forbiddenin some countrys i think...
Edit: meh... you were faster :)

to be honest, im not too worried about the legal ramifications of online gambling. i seriously doubt any law-enforcement official is reviewing these posts...

and we should use the fact that there aren't a lot of adults playing soldat to our advantage. this will help keep the real-money gambling community tight-knit and legitimate. even if there were only 10 or so people who are honest and gamble between ourselves frequently, i would have a lot more fun then where i am at now. [:(]

i could honestly see myself betting upwards of $500 a month on soldat duels if i could find enough people to wager with. this post is still pretty fresh, hopefully more support will come about as the hours linger on. [^]

Glad to hear you've got money to spend..

Anyways, trust me, I would love to do this, and I know a Law Official is not scanning these forums and I'm not worried either, but I'm not sure Styx would like to be hosting a Forum with illegal goings on. If he says it's alright, then yeah, we're on :)

"betting $500 a month" isnt what you think it is my dear action figure child. if i make 50 $10 bets through out the course of the month then i have bet $500

even if i win 50% of these bets (meaning i break even) i have still bet $500. so in reality, its not that much money.

i wasnt attempting to boast either...just wanted to show how serious i am about real money betting...

anyone care to make a wager on an upcomming duel? [;)]

I would honestly agree to transactions on paypal on the outcome of duels i've participated in.

Gambling on others dueling though, not sure...still, thats the whole point of gambling, hoping on something unsure.

All fair and well if you win and you get the money, if you lose and you waged a lot..what's stopping the better who lost NOT pay the money?

Other than that, I think it's a pretty sound idea, though I won't gamble more than fiver.

bad idea imho, there would be people that wouldnt pay up, i know you said that those people will be "weeded-out", but still, i think you'd need a whole lot of time doing that before you get to the real players and payers.

If its done propoply im sure there would be a way around people not paying but someone would have to dedicate them selfs to it, maybe wood would be up for it seeing as its his idea

Aye, i love the idea... as Hitman knows i was pretty dissapointed when he told me the bets werent for real money...
anyway, even if it is Ilegal, i dont think wood here minds too much bout legal stuff ;)

this idea rocks... stop the betting for monopoly money already and get real ;)

Chakra
June 2, 2004, 1:39 pm
well if this idea would span any further than two mates betting against each other, the best idea would be, when 'strangers' are involved, is to have a third person acting as an 'official' for this whole game to take their bets before the game.

Paypal charges 3.5% for every transaction though, so you'll no doubt end up losing a few pennies, but hopefully in exchange for pounds.

alright...me vs some other guy..I pay him 10$ to loose(ofcourse i would win anyway) then I put all my savings on myself...yaaaaaaaaaaar I like it! :)

I can't really say anything, considering I have no money, as a child, although this idea does seem to be very unstable in my opinion.

wood

I know there are a lot of loop hole's in this idea, and it will take some time to bang em all out.

I know you could "bribe" one of the players to loose, and then split the profit...this happens very often in official sports, but there are ways around it

first off, only make a bet w/ someone who you know and trust. obviously picking noobs who you dont know isnt the safest thing to do, so USE COMMON SENSE.

another way to beat cheating, is to keep the bets low. i cant see someone spending any money on trying to "fix" a duel in their favor if the bet is only for $5.

i can sense the scepticism of my peers in this situation, but as weed says "monopoly money" is worthless. real money, even if just a few dollars, adds a whole new level of fun and excitement into soldat.

i, for one, am ready to test this out. if you know me, and want to set up a duel to bet on, pm me. (if you dont know me, then dont bother wasting my time...im not betting u sh*t).

we should both agree on the participants of the duel before the formal bet is made. once we agree on the people, we can then delegate the amount of the wager. a server must be found that is adequate for both participants (ie - low ping). once all of this is agreed on, the bet is a go.

upon completing the match, the loser should transfer the money immediately into his rivals paypal account.

ill be on IRC in 2.5 hours from now, and will be ready to take as many bets as people want to make. if you want to reach me now, PM me via this forum.

It takes the FUN out of soldat... I mean think about it? How many of you have played wid me? Alot of yall yes. You know that im just as good as most of the "Adult" players. But i cant bet? Now think about it everyone on soldat will become enimies with this money thing. They will think only about the money. It will encourage Hacking, Stealing... alot of stuff. Play for Fun :). Its the fun that its good. That is wat you should play for:)

money makes it fun. read the first post...soldat needs this new level of excitement. and you dont have to worry about hackers and the like...assuming we keep the bets relatively low. It would be pointless to bribe someone or hack when you are winning a few measly bucks.

and about not being fair bc you are a child and dont have money...too bad.

all of us "adults" were your age once, and we had to deal with the lack-of-legalized gambling :( ...now its your turn.

i enjoy playing billiards quit a bit, and when i know a bet is placed on me, or i'm i'm making a friendly wager with my opponant, it does give me more of an incentive to win. so betting does add a whole new aspect to a game.

Those last words were harsh, im a minor almost 17. Id just recommend watching what you say around here, half of the soldat community is made up of people under 18

wow...what a rush. Ok, it was only for £2.70 ($5), but it definitely added a sense of drama to the fact I could 'lose'. My heart was pounding a little, and when I was just a few kills down the tension built.

Still, I somehow managed to come out the victor in my duel with Wood, very tense, 30-27. I can't say I feel 'great' for winning just £2.70, but I felt a rush of tension and urgency when it seemed I was losing, even if only a poultry amount. Nice one Wood, was worth the investment.
