I went on an online server once, and it was really wierd

Me and the other people kept getting our guns shot out of our hands and you couldn't pick them back up. You had to find someone else's.
You were lucky to have a gun at all

well in close-quarters combat you start ramming people with your gun and, if you're lucky, you knock their gun out of their hands. is that what happened?

I'd go with the lag vote...maybe you just appeared yards away? I know people have warped/disarmed me before in extreme cases of lag.

Yarr, I've been punched to death from across the map before.. and in lag (trust me I know about lag) you'd be lucky to pick up your weapon once it's dropped to the ground.

i dunno.... it seemed to effect everyone playing
