It does not work...I change my alt 1 - 0 and they are still the defaults

I don't know if this will help or not, but if you are registered you have to edit taunts.txt in your profile folder instead of in the "soldat" folder.

Did you register Soldat? if yes, then you have edit the one inside the 'Profile' Folder inside soldat directroy

eh i don't get it you wanna change taunts 1 and 0 places? well if that so get some taunts editing program from selfkill then you can see each number/letter and what taunt belongs to it...

Maybe you simply didn't restart Soldat? When changing Soldat files while playing Soldat, for example taunts or graphics, you won't see the change until you restart Soldat.
