Could you guys just.. join.. and talk?
it doesn't have to be Soldat-related, but I think a meeting point for all forum users could be fun.

To the guys who don't know how to join: You can use Opera, a Miranda IRC plugin, mIRC (www.mirc.com) or any other IRC client. Google has lots of them.

Edit: Please, don't just join, say "o hello ne1 here??", wait 1 minute and leave.

I went to commands>join channel then I put in irc://irc.quakenet.org:6667/soldat.forums

and a window pops up... am I at the right place?

I don't think many peaple will join in IRC i think they are all busy playing Soldat [:D].

some one hurry up and join (if I am at the right place)

cause I am cold and feel like a game of UT2004.

Open the options (ALT+O), enter a name, email (dont have to be real), nick and alternative nick, press ok. At the bottom there's an editbox/command line. Type: /server irc.quakenet.org and then when it's connected /join #soldat.forums
That's about it.
OR open mIRC and then click the link :)

You can join from school if u use xchat

I'd rather not. <_< Besides, I'm goin on the bus in 15 minutes. The bus ride is around 35 minutes, unless we get caught by one of those freight trains, then it's about 50 minutes. >_<

I've just built a really simple chatterbot in about 30 minutes consisting of 66 lines of mIRC script.
so whenever you read a line like "nick, blah blah" that's me (but the chatterbot replies for me).

FFS... Just go to bloody www.mirc.com , download the latest version of irc, select 'Quakenet' as your server to connect to, and press connect. Also it would be cool if you could use your forum nicks so everyone knows who's who.

You can get exactly the same information like that in mIRC, it's in options somewhere :)

ok, this channel is stupid. The people in there are dumb, actually just Hitman. The whole channel is used to plan destructions, and I was one of the victim. Hitman and his follwers planned a mass spam attack on my msn messenger for no apparent reason. And he also said I got owned in the topic because he has his 'op' power to make fun of poeple. Isn't that power abuse?

xchat. You do not need any script to make it work properly, and xchat is freeware If you want to use mIRC legally you must pay it.

It's not illegal, it's just a way of making them think they have to pay, while they don't have to, when the evaluation is over, you can still press continue after some seconds :)

this would solve the problem for people like kaz who is at school.. and it easier than having everyone that doesn 't use irc normally install mIRC just to get on one channel...

i added #soldat.forums to the official soldat chat applet. if school machines have java installed (im sure they have) then you can join the chat via the soldat homepage. have phun.

that's the nature of Quakenet. Ppl don't join to chat, they just join. For example, i join out of routine. When i start up my computer i start mIRC and Winamp... It's just up and running and i can go in and drop a line if i want but i also had days on that i didn't even write a letter.

Uh... It's pretty hard to find it quiet, when i'm there i'm always talking, even if it's to myself. -.-

Just find a person you know and start talking. It will just carry on and.. poof! Pages of "lol" "eh" and "OWNED".

Maybe wherever you're connecting from has blocked the IRC port...That's what they did on my server..I used to have an awesome bot that kicked all the other bots asses, but then suddenly it was no longer able to connect to any QNet server :(

As a security countermeasure, all clients connecting from *@*.cox.net are now required to give a valid ident response on connect. If you use mIRC, open mIRC options, select Connect -> Identd -> Enable Identd server. You may also need to unblock external/internet port 113 in your software or hardware firewall and/or forward it..
