The new file system for the forum is ready to go live today.
Client side features include (i.e. stuff to may you folks happy):
Upload files/images to posts and PMs
Attach previously uploaded files to posts and PMs
Attach/upload images to your avatar
Share (or hide) your files with others members
Browse all shared files on the forum by category or by member
Search for files
Add descriptions to files and images
Download counter for all files
Thumbnails of images displayed when browsing shared files
If someone hits a dead link the forum will detect this and try to point them off to the correct place to search for the file
Server side features (i.e. stuff to make me and my ISP happy):
Forum admins (i.e. me) can monitor uploaded files easier (no more p0rn or hack distro)
Files can only be downloaded by members (so no more hotlinking to files killing the forum bandwidth)
Upload limited to xxkb per file and xxMb per person
I've written a script that migrate your files from the old system to the new, but note that by default these files will be shared for all members to see, so be quick to set them hidden if you don't want them seem
Notes:
Please zip demos, maps interfaces before uploading, while you are at it put in a text file with your contact details in case the person who downloads it forgets who/where they got the file from.
Some older version of Opera seem to have problems deleting files, grab the latest version and you'll be fine.
I'll give everyone a couple of weeks to move their file across
Bugs/Issues:
If you upload two files with the same name the first one _will_ be overwritten
You can not put to images side by side Fixed
Can't use left right centre tags _and_ keep images on same level
Let me know by PM, here or IR if you find any more bugs/issues.
