Yellowcard actually ranks pretty high up on my list too, though not far enough to unseat these 5. At the risk of being the guy that claims to have heard of them first... Those guys all went to Mt. Ranier High School. I went to Highline (rival schools). It's kinda crazy that a group from my neck of the woods got that sort of recognition :) . They do put on a killer show if you ever get the chance to see them (They opened for The *Ataris when they came through town).

(Whoever saw Incubus live) - I saw them at Board This! one year... the drummer played to the side... as in he was facing stage left. Did he do that for you guys too? Not complaining :) just thought it was kinda interesting.

Anyone who's into punk - Go to Hot Topic and buy up their Fat Wrech Chords and PunkORama CDs. That's how I heard about NUFAN and really started to listen to NOFX. MxPx was my first real punk band... but I didn't start really listening to a lot of different guys until a buddy of mine gave me a mix tape which was essencially Life in the Fat Lane. I've been hooked on about 4 bands off that CD ever since :)

Check out some of punks roots if you haven't already-like Black Flag, the previusly mentioned Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat. They're vaugly like "modern punk" only louder and faster and more politicized and more ahhhhhhh! so good! I'm honestly a little put off by the amount of whining in bands like Blink 182..but oh well.

Argue what? I never defined punk. In terms of the very broad spectrum of music, bands like Blink 182 do fall into the Punk genre. I will agree that there are sub-types of Punk, just as there are sub types of rcok (ie metal, alternative, grunge, etc). There's 80s punk, acid punk, hardcore punk, screamer punk, and melodic punk just to name a few.

Most of the people here who have posted are guys who are more into melodic type punk. They like Blink 182 and these new bands that are coming out. I was merely trying to broaden their spectrum so they'll look at some more bands.

MxPx and Green Day were my gateway punk bands. Are they kinda pop-punk? Sure. Does that mean it's not punk? no. Punk rock is just a fast 4x4 beat with power choards. Stop trying to make it out to be more than it is :P

Old punkers don't like the new stuff. It's a little more upbeat. It's a little more happy. It's got a lot wider a listening base.

Oh... and why not shop at Hot Topic to get CDs? :-/ It's the only vendor I know of that has both PunkORama and Fat Wrech Chords stuff

Well Social Poison, I'm sorry if I came off as a music nazi...didn't mean to. Also, it seems the reason alot of people are into the poppier side of punk is because those bands, as you said, were a sort of gateway drug for them into punk. Because of this, I think alot of people seem to have soft spots for bands like Blink-182, even though they've moved onto harder type punk. But for me, these bands weren't my introduction to punk. My cousin was. He turned me on to Fugazi, Black Flag, DKs, etc., and because of this, I'm afraid I can't empathize with your statements...but I suppose I understand how you feel.

Also, Aerosmith was my introduction to hard rock, and now I can't stand em, just me though...

Edit: Also, to adress the Hot Topic issue, have you looked at your local record stores? I often find the ones in my town have a selection much superior to Borders or something. If you can't find it there, have you considered ordering the CD's directly from their respective websites? I just hate Hot Topic because they are a huge corperation capitalizing on depressed teenager's "rebellion". Plus everything there is overpriced.

And sorry about your name, for some reason I always thought there was no space...wierd. Anyways, I went and fixed it. Sorry about that.
