if you don't know what im talking about; http://archive.forums.soldat.pl/topic.php?topic_id=16742

Yeah, so i suggest an option in soldat.ini like "Max_FPS"...there is an option like this in Wolfenstein so people can set a maximum fps....nothing more to say really :|

I agree

I don't agree.

Yes, you could set max_fps low on slow pc's which would definately reduce the mighty fps crush on an action-scene

LOL, but where is the problem playing with 1000 fps?

Hmm, i chose as an option with my graphicscard that max FPS should be 72.0. So in game it bounces from 70.6 to 72.0, back and forth.

Your graphicscards are useless and suck too! All hail the mighty FX 5200!

ATI>>>>GeForce

Back to topic, the refresh_rate thing might be something like this but it would be nice to set this as number.

Palloco, more fps -> takes more cpu -> action (lotsa nades, autos, minigun etc..) -> fps collapses.

The more you have fps, the more the action will drop the fps, you know?

if we have a max_fps value, dont we need a min_fps ?

hmm you cant stop the fps from dropping.
but you could set the max_fps to your lowest fps rating you ever get,
so the fps would stay constant. i think thats how it works in most games.

Lol, Good idea N1nj@.

I think there is no reason at all not to implement a max_fps option. It's very simple and helps those folks with slower machines. I have a few friends who play maps as slow as 16 fps.

The guy who posted n00bface's reference is a bit wacked. The human eye can't see more than 60 frames per second, and 50-60 fps has a virtually unnoticeable difference from 60 fps.

I think there is no reason at all to implement a max_fps option. It would just be extra coding for michal and I can't see where there would be a benefit from this.

"Palloco, more fps -> takes more cpu -> action (lotsa nades, autos, minigun etc..) -> fps collapses."

What does this mean? Are you trying to tell me that the more fps the slower it will run? Thats stupid

LOL, that is stupid. Why is having a mostly high FPS that drops occasionally worse than having the FPS permanently low?

because the feeling changes with your fps..
more drastically with games like cs and quake but in soldat too.
thats why you want it constant.

I normally have constant 200FPS in Window-Mode, AA on, Dithering on, 32 Bitrate, Particles max, smooth polygons and anisotropic texture filter...well I've got a FX 5950 Ultra, so it has to be like this rofl.

but anyway I don't see the point...

If you have a changing fps from 30-60 and you can set max fps on 30 or 40, You'll be really raelly very happy.

I'm sorry you can't see the benifits. What are you trying to play at? If Michal doesn't have the time to program it, that's his choice. I've use my fair share of slow PCs, and have experianced problems relating to this before. Please don't disregard someone's idea.

Elephant, wth are you saying! You still had not said a single reason why you would want to lower fps?!? The feeling?!? The feeling of running it crappy all the time is better than run it crappy only few times when there is a lot of action? Are you guys able to use logic?

Look, when you're fps is 30 for a second, and 60 the other seconds, it gets unbelievable annoying to play, the screen is 'shocking' then. so it'd be nice to have a stable fps, even though it isn't as high, it'd reduce the shocking

thank you denacke, that was what i tried to say.
even though i wouldnt even be playing soldat with your fps.

In my opinion, this feature is unnecessary as even a 650 mhz with onboard graphics gets a stable 60 FPS, what computers are you guys running to have 16 FPS?!

Denacke, try to play with constant 30 fps and tell me it is pleasant. FFS!

It will be more pleasent than when you're fps is switching from 30to60

Which shows you had neved played with constant 30 fps. Try playing against 32 bots

youre drifting from the point.
whether i have that low fps or 100-140, it gets jumpy if its not stable.

This is going nowhere.

The only advantage I see (I'll ignore the classic FPS discussion), is going away from the constant CPU usage.
e.g. my frame rate practically never drops below 200 fp/s except with lots of bots. I'd just limit the frame rate to a comfortable 70 fp/s and give my CPU a little break or power for a dedicated server.
