As some of you may have heard on the grapevine, beta-testing on the new soldat has begun.

As many of you may recall from the last beta-test session, it was attemptively shrouded in secrecy and what not. [:-censored] that, I say. Being a beta-tester myself, I contently put my privilages on the line by revealing the newest feature to be in the next version of Soldat, because lets face it, you really want to know.

Inside that zip is unedited footage and PROOF of the newest feature in Soldat. Bullet time affects all in the game when everyone's health reaches a certain low...and the best bit is, it actually [:-censored]ing works!! [:O]

When this time effect thing happens.. would everyone be affected with it? I mean, If this is true and I beleive that this will be implimented... when you kill someone and the time slows down, what about everyone else in there with you. OR is that just a server setting...

I mean, for example.

Mancer, Bobby, Ryan, and Jeff enter a server.

Bobby kills Ryan, and the Time effect thing happens.

Mancer and Jeff are nearby, watching bobby kill ryan.

Would Mancer and Jeff see the time effect as if they were slowing down or would it continue as it normally would?

A 5th secondary has been added, due to much quabbling among us beta testers. We're not sure whether we like it or not really.

It's not a weapon, it's a riot-shield. When crouched you're completely protected in front except from weapons 7 & 8, but you also move slower. You can use it while standing too, but your toes are slightly at risk.

It's not really that useful on the move, and you can't shoot back while it's equipped. However, if you were to use it as a team, you can protect a team member. Suprisingly this maneuver really works for nice slow advances on the enemy, but it still doesn't feel right and it kind of goes against the 'pace' we're used to in Soldat.

Oh how evil ;D

The bullet time doesn't have to be an option. It just magically detects what the player wants to experience right now and adjusts accordingly. It just makes everybody happy.

i swear, i hope this is not some twisted joke! the textures/colours look all funny in that map, i hope its just for the beta version. i can see it working. Has anyone seen or played The Specialist on half life? it a mod where u can go bullet time, and as it is mainly multiplayer, it goes for the whole server. its not possible for 2 people to be goin slow mo and everyione else still going normal speed.

Thats because i use the cel shaded mod. Dont worry about the textures.

I thought bullet time was a joke and you just edited a video, but when I saw the shield as 5th secondary I was much convinced. Looks cool. Better not ruin gameplay though =).

..'k i've saved one of the better (and bizarre) facts of the new soldat for a late entry, as time was taken over the creation of this video.

So far, it's only one map, and it's not waypointed with bots. However, Pinball Mode is fully playable online. Quite simply, it's a pinball map, and you blast yourself around with weapons (all of which propel you in minor various ways and speeds, minus chainsaw and knife).

You cannot kill one another in multiplayer, the goal is to simply gain enough points from hitting or passing certain points on the map. Or you can play by yourself and try to get a better score within a strict amount of time.


Yeah...it's certainly 'new'. And it ain't really Soldat, but Michal said, and I quote "I felt it was time to experiment with the engine and it's possibilities within Soldat, and somehow I came up with this." It's suprisingly fun too, although only as a distraction. Definitely something to look forward to though!

It's not a joke. These are all very fun additions to the game and add a new level of gameplay...Freeze time is especially fun since its easier to make a comeback when you're low on HP ;) And pinball is a fun mode especially since you can mod it :) The only thing I don't like is the freeze bug in pinball..

Bullettime!? On a 16 person server the gane would be played in slow motion 80% of the time. Which would seem cool at first, but later become anoying.

Riot Shield!? It ruined CS and it will ruin Soldat as well, especially since it can be carried along with primary weapons here, while it could only be used with pistols in CS.

Pinball!? Are you suppose to play it online or..? Would be impossible to find a server with under 200 ping and above 3 players. Won't that just lag the filling out of the bluescreen? It couldn't be player as single player since I can't see the fun in blowing myself around in a circle.


You beta testers always do this!! Last time it was the Pink Bunny Launcher and the rumors about Barret beeing removed.

Thank God, too. Because if it was really what was happening to Soldat, I'd have left. And, I was skeptical from the start because all of that would complicate, or destroy the gameplay. The gurus on these forums have insisted for months that this kind of crap would never be seen in Soldat, and the mere suggestion that it will exist is insulting.

Yes, believe it or not, all bullets (minus m79 and I 'think' spaz) will ricochet. It only works when shooting an angle no more than about 10 degrees, but it's still a very cool feature we find that leads to a suprising amount of lucky situations.

M79 and Spas too.

The funniest part is that I'd been gone for about a week, came back on to the forums today, and I read this topic before I even noticed "others"

Let me clear up the facts.

Bullet Time is put into play when at least one person has gone into a critical health stage.

And now for the rest of them... Oh, wait, you don't need to know, because that's the fun of it all. Bai.

I can't see how it's even close to possible to program giving one guy bullet time and leave the rest to normal time... and if everyone slows down when health is low, that's the gayest thing I've ever heard. Also, screenshots and videos do little to prove what you guys say. They are easily forged.

For instance, that Riot Shield item in the weapons menu. The text is noticably more crisp than the surrounding graphics. The pinball idea was like looking at a paralell universe where the soldat vomit (bugs, bad packets and the corpses of hackers that I've slain) colleects into a massive pool. Ricochet, I could believe that as it's *almost* a good idea, except the screenshot looks like you're shooting turds. Christ. I'm not going to believe it untill Michael comes out and says this is true.

haha, very true. pinball mode IS a joke. and for all of you whinging about bullet time effects in multiplayer, PLAY THE SPECIALIST! (half life mod with bullet time) it works bloody well and could do so with soldat

All I can say is i'm [:-censored]ed, any time I try to open a demo, my computer freezes. Oh wait, there it goes..haha..I like the idea of Bullettime but that's it. N00bish Campers become more powerful by 10 fold with that damn shield, and on top of it all. I'm sure I'll be on the unlucky end of all those "lucky" situtations Chakra described. Peace.

Keep in mind, the same thing (bullet time) has been shown in Project X's films.

that was slow motion, not bullet time. he slowed down the frames so it would get to see some of the tricks better. the richochet thing is not good for soldat. 1 reason. Campers. they will sit there and ricochet bullets at you when their hiding. i personally dont like that option

People, stop saying that bullet time sucks until you know how it works. It never happens in big games because it has to affect everyone at once whos in the same area. It only happens in smaller games and duels.

I'm a programmer, I know how it works. Saying that it's good in smaller games and duels is like saying gonnoreah is cool if you don't get it from an orgy. It just means less people have infected genitals, but they STILL have a problem, despite how many of them have it. And as for Project X, yes, he did slow it down, and what I'm saying is that it looks exactly the same as this "bullet time," and by saying that I implied that it could quite easily be a forgery in which the person simply recorded their game and slowed it down like project X does to their movies, and then claim it has bullet time.

I don't know what everyone thinks, but you have to believe me that bullet time is fricking AWESOME. I think it happens only when all players are in the same area, fighting each other, so they all SHOULD be affected by the slow motion.

Nah, it only happens when you sew someone with matrix style

So how much are we "allowed" to say? I'll say this: Bullet time is very cool. Have I ever led you astray? I was a doubter (as you can see by reading past "bullet time" topics)... but it appears that I was wrong.

Barret Sight.

This works, coz there is no arch in the barrett bullet anymore.
And it can be switched on/off serverside.
It shows the area where the bullet will hit.
And as you can see, my great suggestion was noted. notice the bunneh ears, paws and the tail on the player.

Barret doesnt arc anymore because bullets bounce on poly's and sometimes you can get dudded shots.

but a dudded shot may make you stunned for 2 secs, like the explosion does if its near you

I'm finding it hard to believe this. The things you showed could be easily edited into a video or screenshot.

Bunny mode...? fake! it would have said You have killed Bunny or something.... the pinball machine.. fake.... you just need a reload/firerate hack... and that map.... and that sheild thing. look at the text/how clear the text is. the Sheild part looks as if it was just done with MS Paint...

I believe the most telling this is how in the very first video the ammo, life, and fps information are all "blacked out" like hiding that information would add cinematic drama.

And look carefully at the level of detail on the bunnies for how small they are. Soldat runs at a lower resolution than "normal" computers (600x400? smaller?). Notice how the bunny eyes and blood are smaller than anything else in Soldat. Blood pixles are bigger.

Ok, beyond popular belief, this is NOT a joke. I viewed it with my very own eyes by guessing the pass to a server on remote admin.
They said that bullets ricochete and pinball mode IS real. From what I saw in the chat bullets, a lot of health bugs need to be fixed, because Spyder kept bitching about hitting someone with a M79 and a knife, and they didn't die. It was funny as hell though, everyone in the arena got booted and banned for 20 minutes. Sorry for sneaking in on you guys n00bface, but I just wanted to listen to the chat, :D.

Sounds quite fun, bullet time seems ok, but michal needs to stop taking from movies :D.

No. You see, just because we test the beta doesn't mean that we have much inside info. Michal tells us what's up, and we just agree and test it. We tell him what bugs we find, and that's pretty much it. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that besides knowing what Michal is planning to release, we don't know anything about it.
