Very costly and poorly performanced
Not only their graphic cards are pathetic. Now they had decide to "copy a popular chip from smaller rival Advanced Micro Devices." and while people believe AMD chips run hot(and I had heard of much more heating problems in intels than in amds) the reality is that "Some of Intel's existing high-end chips run so hot they require a special fan, "

Slightly outdated, but it shows vulnerability in AMD's lines of processors too.

mmmhmmmm i agree, AMD's are better than intels.

My current processor: AMD 2400+

Certainly that is the fact the made poeple believe that AMDs overheat... in the 2001, while Pentium overheat... in the 2004 http://www.cooltechzone.com/reviews/cpu/itwbu64p_008.php
And in its whole Pentium series history we can find several problems aswell, like the famous Pentium bug where 1+1 was 1.9990427 or so... and obviously that pentium 60 had several problems of heating because it was really difficult to add those numbers. OR pentium III http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=1555 or pII http://news.com.com/2100-1040-238117.html?legacy=cnet

palloco, maybe you should just get a new AMD and Intel processor and then simply compare them. Then we could talk.
I'm running a Pentium and everything's going great.
What I've learned.. the reviews etc. about processors tend to be crap on the internet. Everybody says something different.

Wait.
I'm using Intel, but do you see me ranting about AMD?

I like ranting about intel because they are expensive, and the lower it costed and the better they were, the more efforts AMD would put in bbetter prices and performance, and we all would win. But it seems they can hardly maintain the good level they had. The latest intel laptops that arent mobile are louder than my current pc while the athlons non mobile installed in laptops aren't noisy, just like centrinos.
And I also rant because in my university there are 3 laptops that cost 150? less than usual (750? costs the cheaper), but they are all intel and if they were AMd I would surely buy one of them. Why arent they AMD? Because people still think intel is better.

I agree. When I'm looking at computers in a store 98% of them are Intel WTF I want to see AMD I'm so angry

Wait, you care about the CPU manufacturer, yet you look at pre-built computer systems?

Sometimes it is better to buy a prebuilt machine and change some components later because it is still cheaper than buy separate components. Or are you able to build an athlon 64 3000, 1GB ram, 200 GB, ATI radeon 9800 pro, DVD writer for 500 ??

Waait a minute. I bought an Intel 3.0 GHz for ~$290. AMD XP 3000+s are being sold online for $277. Surely, since there is a mere $13 difference between these two processors, AMD is expensive too then?

Whawhawhat! What source?
Lenme check a known place like newegg

p 3ghx 189 to 205$
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?submit=property&catalog=343&propertycodevalue=4186&minprice=&maxprice=&mfrcode=0&DEPA=1&page=2&listStyle=2

Athlon XP 3000+ form 139 to 155$
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?catalog=343&DEPA=1&submit=property&mfrcode=0&propertycode=&propertycodevalue=4159

Athlon 64 3000+ from 164 to 190, Athlon 64 3200+ for 204
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?catalog=343&DEPA=1&submit=property&mfrcode=0&propertycode=&propertycodevalue=4954

And since an Athlon 64 has an improved performance over athlon XP you would need it to compare with the most expensive PIV or the next one. I mean athlon 64 3000+ with a PIV 3Ghz EE or with a PIV 3.2 GHZ, but still the Athlon 64 3200+ is cheaper than these ones.
