if thats 1 second.. thats not right.. i waited for more then 60 seconds to view this page..

rendering is counted as how long it took to get the data from the SQL server and build the HTML of the page...anything on top of that is a slow connection....either on the server side or yours.

Bah, yesterday (or was it the day before?), the forums were fine, but now they really are slow. It's not my connection since I have DSL, so it must be the server's problem.

pfff me and my english.....
so anyway i checked something:
I went to the site through soldatforums.dnagames.net and the main page was rendered in 0.88 seconds
I went through soldatforums.com and the page was rendered in 1.88

DNA.styx
October 21, 2004, 2:50 pm
soldatforums.dnagames.net redirects to soldatforums.com...you should see it change in your browser address bar.

im pretty sure the lag is in the URL mask you are using with soldatforums.com

my rendered in times are under half a second (.34 seconds), but it takes me almost 20 seconds to load a page, it used to take less than 3 seconds before your maintenance the other day. My connection is a university connection, some fiber connection good for a couple gigabits per second.

DNA.styx
October 21, 2004, 4:29 pm
there is no mask in use. soldatforums.com is hosted on it's own server with it's own copy of the files that are on the dnagames server. But if anyone uses a dnagames link (eg. from a bookmark, or search engine) they get redirected to the correct soldatforums.com page.

I'm begining to think that the new hosts of the forum are throttling download speeds.

before i had dsl (i had 56k) it didn't take much time to upload it

The site is so damn slow. i have a 3000/384 connection and i have to wait 2 minutes for a page to load. And i know the reason. In FireFox i saw that the site sends a lot of cookies out.(no Dt not cookies you eat)

I think Styx gets the point that the forum is slow! Although annoying, we have to live with it for now, I'm sure Styx is trying to find a solution.

what are the stats on your server styx??

and how come you don't just use what you used to use cuz it was like 100000000 times better except for the onccassional bugs.

DNA.styx
October 26, 2004, 8:59 am
I've no idea what the stats are for the new server are: it's a hosting plan that Michal arranged as I've moved onto a new job and left my old employer (who gave me free hosting for whatever I want).

> are you gonna get a new host soon?
That's a question for Michal: he's the one that sourced and is paying for this one. These forums are not cheap to run: 1Gb a day bandwidth and 200Mb SQL data.

The rendering time is the time for the SQL server to pull the data from the datebase. Now it's loading in 0.56 seconds so it was just the SQL server getting hammered at the time that you where viewing the page.

Why paying for forums when there are free options?

DNA.styx
November 1, 2004, 6:28 pm
Palloco, you try to find a banner free ASP host with free MS-SQL that allows the above usage :)
Seriously let me know.

I mean php

DNA.styx

but this forum isn't PHP.

palloco
November 2, 2004, 11:59 am
Yep, but why not emigrating to a php one. I do not think anyone would have problems by having to create an account for the new forum, and it would save a lot of money. The problem you are gonna mention is that there is a lot of stuff saved here, people interested in saving it may copy his threads in txt format, save his files and put them in the new forum. Is it really worth paying for something you may freely get?

DNA.styx
November 2, 2004, 12:19 pm
You have mentioned this a couple of times but moving to PHP is still not an option. Without getting into the M$ vs. *nix discussion, my background is in M$/ASP/MS-SQL so until I need/have to start down the path of *nix/PHP, here we stay. :)
