I was wondering if you have a older PC, and how it is handling the new version. Mine has not taken too well to it; pings are higher across the board, the amount of bullets slow down the fps to under 1, and the game speed is just worse. If you have a below average computer I would like you to mention what your experience has been so far.

What do you mean by a below average computer?
400 mhz? It runs soldat fine, as always. If 3 or 4 people are firing miniguns fps will go under 1 fps, but that happened always.

667mhz, and I'm running fine. I can take 12 players in a server, at a scratch.

i have a P833 with 512mb ram, but i'm severely let down by a built in graphics card: Intel(R) 82815 graphics controller. Every 40 or so seconds the game just 'stops' for a few seconds and I miss a few moments in the game.

Well the requirements are always a little higher in each version. The computer industry doesn't stand in place. You'll probably have lags on big scenery maps like ctf_Chernobyl but you don't have to play them. Turn off all the graphic options in Soldat Setup. And you can always overclock your graphics card :).

well the new version seems to run better than the old one on my computer.

btw what'd make soldat faster ...using the texture filter on bilinear or just turning it off?

Chakra, you computer specs aare remarkably similar to mine. Mine is A PIII 866 with intel 82810e, but I only hand 128mb ram. I also experienced the "stopping" occasionally. I would guess that turning off the texture filter would be faster, but to be sure, compare and see which one looks uglier ;)

Hmm, I think it lags less with bilinear (default) on. I'll try 'point' sometime later..

I have a PII 400mhz.. they dont come much worse than that. I've turned off extra options like weather effects and smooth out polygons, and when worst comes to worst, i find that if you turn sound off alltogether, it reduces computer lag a fair bit.

Oh and I put texture filters to none, don't know if it helps though.

I don't play with smooth polygons anyway because I find them annyoying (they don't look smooth and they hide guns on the ground)

PIII 500 mhz 256mb ram, runs ok, in a 12 player fps drops quite alot.

Texture filter set to 'none' would be the most logical to keep the speed up.

All the graphic options are at the lowest. Overclocking my video card just for soldat seems a bit pointless.

I have a Celeron 433, and I am about to buy a whole new computer (this one is too old now).

Wow I didnt realise how many people here had old setups, maybe you guys should think about up grading if you can.

i had 350mhz à la 64mb with some integrated or pci ati with 4mb vmemory, had even problems with 1.2...

BUT NOW IM SO GLAD WITH MY AMD 2400+ 512mb GeForce FX 5200 (dont diss, gonna get r9800pro) worked hard for it

Anyway some tweaks/ticks i found in the long battle of mine:

-Dont prefer mods
-Max_Particles in .ini file, you can set it even lower than with setup
-Set refresh rate to default
-Weather effects off
-Try anything which makes soldat not to draw so many things on your screen

EDIT: and disable any possible background programs

Why should we upgrade our computers?
We can do whatever we want and there is no new useful technology out there better than anything above a K5.
