I recommend you downgrade your DirectX to 9.0b, because I think directx 9.0c has some problem with Soldat.

Try doing that and then reinstall a fresh Soldat...

I have 9.0c installed and it works fine for me...

same error, different file: sparks-gfx/explosion/smoke6.bmp

I tried both software render and setting 32 bit instead of 16 and both prevented this loading error, however then I just get a black screen when entering a game, sound and controls work, but you can imagine how uninteresting the game is...

I'll be updating drivers and such and report back if anything comes if this.
