I just spent ages trying to get soldat to work and it was all because direct draw wasnt on, might help if anyone else has problems.

Now also tell us how to turn on/off DirectDraw, so everyone understands your wisdom :)

goto run > type dxdiag > display tab > directdraw acceleration.
