Damn, good work. I was thinking of doing something like this, but didn't get around to it.

The Paintcolor is really nice, and I hope you can get it to work properly soon. When you do, adding a tool to change the amount of area affected by it would be sweet.

The sendback is also a nice feature, although it's a little buggy at the moment.

The more competition in new map makers the better I say. Keep it up ;)

It's GREAT!!! Please don't stop working on it!

"Clean scenery list" button, cool! :)

BTW... you made "send back" button, you should make "bring front" too IMO. :) And I suggest to rearrange the user interace, because it's a bit to messy now.

Vijchtidoodah
November 17, 2004, 12:57 am
Another problem: could you make it so that I can select individual objects. Trying to delete one object out of many is so painfully difficult.

November 17, 2004, 4:29 pm
what about redoing the scenery placement?
first set the size of the scenery (scenery.height = mouse.x - scenery.x; scenery.height = mouse.y - scenery.y;)
click right
then set the rotation (just as it is now.)
click right to set the scenery, click left to go one step backwards -> size settings.

Vijchtidoodah
November 18, 2004, 5:29 am
Another thing that would be useful is either a group or univeral "fix texture" button so that you don't have to click each and every polygon in order to get the textures to line up.

Vijchtidoodah
November 19, 2004, 3:04 am
I've been playing around with the original map maker and a grouping tool would be very useful too.

Vijchtidoodah
November 19, 2004, 5:27 am
Sorry to post so many times in a row, but it would be awesome if you could also include a polygon rotation tool like there is for the objects. Also, a group polygon rotation tool.

Inquisitor
November 21, 2004, 4:15 pm
the point is that adding is not necessary. (Mark.Jp würde seine zeit damit verschwenden). Mark should concentrate on useful things, like better scenery handling. you should be able to edit the scenery after it is already set into the map.

Alright, I've made a map that has scenery galore and I'm running into a bigger problem than before. I don't know if this is a problem with the map maker (and I'm afraid it's not) but if I exceed 500 objects and save the map, when I go to play it only the first 500 sceneries appear and any bullets fired hit the air in front of them.

What do I do now?

I don't know if this clears up anything or just makes it that much more confusing.

"2004/11/30 Ver.Beta4
* Being to receive the mail from the American one, it does, but somehow
The limited number of sceneryes seems 500, is. Actually being to try trying, it does, but
As for the scenery which exceeds 500 it seems that is not indicated with the Soldat.
[ New function ]
- The Infinite (the Kagodori) to add to the JetBox, correspondence.
It is that Kagodori which could be drawn up with the | * SJE+.
You cannot use for the JetCheat #9492; * of course.
- Way largest conversion indication is possible.
When it converts | * maximally, because the descriptive territory becomes wide, it becomes some heavy.
Position of the #9492; * camera slips more or less.
- At the time of polygon compilation, the option addition which being automatic, it tries not to attach apex.

[ Specification modification * correction and the like ]
- While compiling way the Compile Map cannot be pushed. (Double pushing prevention)
- The item of the Steps sound one corrects the fact that it is many wastefully.
- When the Delete it does when the Waypoints it is not been selective, the bug correction which becomes strange.
- Way the scenery can be pasted up to only 500.
- The execution time New Map, it corrects the fact that the scenery list is not initialized.
- The GUI the filter modification which is done.
- Improvement of dialogue.
- Other large number."

I didn't actually notice any changes on the mapmaker other than a check box that says "Don't conect vertices." Which doesn't help much because the vertices didn't connect anyways.

Keep up the good work Mark.jp!

Mark.jp, I noticed a wierd bug that happened when I selected a ton of polygons at once. An error message pops up but you can't close it and you can't save your work on the mapmaker, so you pretty much just have to shut the entire thing down and start over.

I also found another bug, for some reason in the game the berserker powerups keep appearing as healthpacks, and the healthpacks either aren't appearing at all or are appearing much higher than they should.

a suggestion - when creating a poly (when u want its verticle to connect to the other poly's verticle) make a sign that its gonna do it when u are going to click the mouse button - for example having the verticle circled or something
plus a choose verticles thing (like in editpro) where u can choose many verticles/polys and drag them where u want instead of alt-clicking on each and every one.
(like in editpro once again) the connect/disconnect verticles tool where u can choose 2, 3, 4... verticles and press connect and they will come into one spot (when u do the connect thing i think it would be proper, having them in a "group" so if u are draging one of those verticles, the other verticles will drag after it)
grouping tool - by choosing verticles and grouping them, u will have this - when u drag one of the verticles from the group, the other verticles will drag after it, staying in the same realation in distance to all the other verticles. with this tool a number group tool would be good, too - like u did with the polys, and having a find group by number (like "select by num")

i realize that u r not superman and u will not accomplish all that :D but im just throwing ideas at u which u might or might not consider doing.

btw: i luv the paint brush tool :D

I've found a few very annoying bugs:

1) Frequently, when I make a new polygon, the mapmaker randomly colors one vertice red. It doesn't show up in the editing boxes on the right, but it usually carries over from one polygon to the next if I continue to make them without fixing the problem.
2) The compiler has sped up significantly from past versions, but only when you don't have any spawn points on the map. Otherwise, it's just as slow as before.
3) When zoomed in, selecting and trying to move individual vertices is incredibly tough. Sometimes I'll click and the wrong vertice will move, and other times the entire polygon will move.
4) After compiling, the background becomes enormous so that any shading that I had is now spaced out so far that you can't tell that it's there at all. What would be very nice, is the ability to resize the backround manually.

5) When I copy and paste a polygon, the new one usually appears so far away from the original that I have to zoom all the way out just to find it.
6) Whenever I add a new polygon to the map, I have to fix the texture for every single polygon all over again instead of having the new polygon fit into the already existing pattern.
7) The sticky vertices option rarely works and when it does, it leaves visible gaps.
8) I get random ???????? error messages every once in a while, the frequency that I recieve them accelerates until clicking on any polygon prompts it to mess up on me and the compiler stops working.
9) When I try to put scenery that's behind everything on top of scenery that's in front of everything, it just goes in front anyway.

And here are some much needed additions that still haven't been put into the editor:
1) The ability to click and drag to select multiple polygons at once.
2) Editing existing scenery. I would still love to be able to move and reshape scenery after I have placed it down.

If you could fix and add what is needed, this could be the best map editor ever. But it is still lacking in so many aspects. Thanks for all of your effort into this project, I hope you continue to work on it.

Mark, it really helps if you tell us when you make an update...

By the way, in the options menu, what do the 'Relate PMS' and 'Release' buttons do?

February 7, 2005, 4:05 am
OMG, YES, you have to tell us when there's a new version!! I love you!!

'Relate PMS' makes pms files open automatically in Map Maker Plus when you double click them.
'Release' undoes the relate thing.

Unzip them to your main folder.

Edit: 1.3 is out...the only difference seems to be that it warns you to save before you close.

You prolly set it up in the wrong spot, is it in your Soldat folder? I'm using XP and it works just fine. Aside from putting it in the wrong spot, I have no clue..

this is THE absolutely best mapmaker, i've created all my last maps with it and the many extra functions and feauters really helped me.
instead of "send polygon back" make "change polygon number" or something like that so u can enter a number your own so its better calculatable how it will effect the map. maybe make a free scenery stretching option so u can first stretch the scenery in width and then in height. when u select width and height the scenery is always merged into a square. that sux ;Q

Keron Cyst

It looks like it has a lot of potential, especially the shading effect, but for me it keeps saying that a banana.bmp scenery is missing (when I never had such a sprite in the first place o.O') and when I load a map, it can never load the scenery or texture.

If you dont have banana.bmp in your textures folder, you should, because its a default soldat texture ._.

if it dosnt work its most likely because you need to have the folder soldat\mapmaker :D
This new version 1.4 I would say is by far the best map maker right now

Very good. Although people might be confused as where to get the finished instead of beta. So here are instructions:
Click on the website - http://soldatmaps.s58.xrea.com/
On the left side click Map Maker Plus under programs.
Download 1.4 by clicking on the link on the top of the page
:D
I love the fix all option if you click Fix with no polys selected.

Avarax
June 8, 2005, 7:37 pm
i have these suggestions for the next version:

-a small text field where you can enter how many times the selection should be pasted, default is 1. this would make it very easy to create jumppads, teleporters and abomb polygons. i need like 1 minute for creating a teleport poly because i paste the same poly 100 times about itself, this should be shorter.
-when u press "sendback" u should be able to set a number yourself that the poly is assigned to.

i must say that mapmakerplus was well writen but i do have one prob, sometimes when i put two pieces together they look fine but as soon as i compile it they get moved a bit, just enough to ruin the effect i work on, is there anyway to counter that?

grand_diablo
August 1, 2005, 8:12 pm
they dont get moved. Its the background adjusting to the size of the map.

The background is always a square with a fix edge distance to the two polys which are the farthest on the left and right side. So if you add polygons on the sides or resize one of the outer polys, the background-size will be readjusted during compiling.

This porgram will just about be renderred obselete once a fully functioning version polyworks is released.

I dont know what, if any, changes were made to the compile method compared to the original, but in MM's one, the polygons do get moved:
for i:= 1 to Map.PolyCount do
begin
{fix perps}
CalcPerps(i);

Map.Polys[i].Vertices[1].X:= Map.Polys[i].Vertices[1].X + abs(Xl);
Map.Polys[i].Vertices[2].X:= Map.Polys[i].Vertices[2].X + abs(Xl);
Map.Polys[i].Vertices[3].X:= Map.Polys[i].Vertices[3].X + abs(Xl);
Map.Polys[i].Vertices[1].Y:= Map.Polys[i].Vertices[1].Y + abs(Yn);
Map.Polys[i].Vertices[2].Y:= Map.Polys[i].Vertices[2].Y + abs(Yn);
Map.Polys[i].Vertices[3].Y:= Map.Polys[i].Vertices[3].Y + abs(Yn);
end;

{snip}

for i:= 1 to Map.PolyCount do
begin
Map.Polys[i].Vertices[1].X:= Map.Polys[i].Vertices[1].X - HalfLengthX;
Map.Polys[i].Vertices[2].X:= Map.Polys[i].Vertices[2].X - HalfLengthX;
Map.Polys[i].Vertices[3].X:= Map.Polys[i].Vertices[3].X - HalfLengthX;
Map.Polys[i].Vertices[1].Y:= Map.Polys[i].Vertices[1].Y - HalfLengthY;
Map.Polys[i].Vertices[2].Y:= Map.Polys[i].Vertices[2].Y - HalfLengthY;
Map.Polys[i].Vertices[3].Y:= Map.Polys[i].Vertices[3].Y - HalfLengthY;
end;
yes, you're right, the background does get resized, but the poly's get moved as well (if I interpret correctly, they are moved so the map is centered in terms of the coordinates of the polys) It is possible, that due to internal roundoff errors (since computers are finite state machines after all, and representing most numbers exactly is impossible), there may be slight differences in some polys.

I do believe Anna said that she had fixed that in Polyworks, but I'm not sure.

KeFear
August 2, 2005, 3:19 am
She re-wrote the whole thing so i don't think this is in polyworks.

chrisgbk
August 2, 2005, 11:07 pm
That's what I meant when I said fixed, she came up with a better method than the one MM used so hers is different from this one.
