A few of us have a few bands that it seems only you know, and the rest of the world just shrugs to the name of. Gimme your list of musicians that your mates don't know about. I feel I need to expand my tastes to something/one I haven't heard.

Gomez - been around for ages. Beautiful music by beautiful nerds.
Alabama 3 - Brixton born artists who created the Soprano's theme tune. Particularly like their acoustic Last Train to Mashville album.
MF Doom - alternative rap that is only described by his critics as 'unique' and 'genius'.
4hero - acid jazz experimentalists
Penguin Cafe Orchestra - Best modern classical themed music ever. Perpetiuum Mobile is soul touching.

..you get the idea. Now you try it.

Arovane - Autechre-like melodies, I guess. 'Theme' should tell you if you like it
Izmar - http://www.legaltorrents.com/index.php?fuse=10 get it legally there. "delightfully groovy, beautifully programmed jazzy techno/chillout"
edIT - glitchy yet easy IDM

I'll check out 4hero now.. I still like Kruder&Dorfmeister :)

4hero started dipping into trance in their later stuff, as apposed to their earlier soft-beat vibes. Incidently, 4hero - Les Fleur (a remix of Minnie Ripperton) is quite astounding.

Arovane - Theme is pretty damn good btw! Nice one luv.

Thanks for your input so far peeps. Been fun checking out stuff i've never heard of. Ain't had time to check out all of them, or they're just hard to find, but i'll give 'em a gander when I can.

The Bled & Berzerker - I don't understand this music at all. What kind of frame of mind do you get into to appreciate it?
Yngwie Malmstreen - Good guitarist, reminds me alot of Iron Maiden. Not really my vibe no more though.
Zao - Makes me tired thinking the amount of energy they put into their tunes. Good stuff though, I like.
Chimera - Nice solid beats with a calming effect. Groovy.
Atom & his package - ..I see what you mean ... s'what Ben Folds would be like if they were japanese.
Alkaline Trio - Good stuff, but I've heard it all before to be honest. Just seems repackaged.

Zao has a song ("La resistance" or something) on Flash Flash Revolution (http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/ -- it's a flash version of the game "Dance Dance Revolution"). They're alright.

I like alot of the local bands. SOme of my pals aren't so into the local scene, but I'd rather pay $5 to see a band I really like in a small venue than $30 or more to see some MTV band that needs the money for more coke.
Check these out if you wanna:
www.thehdb.com - The Hairy Drain Babies. Local punk outfit, reminicant of Dead Kennedys.
www.theteethband.com - The Teeth. Absolutely insane local band. Uncatogorizable...crazy guitar, short songs with screaming, but definetly not metal.

Both these sites have more than a few free downloads of songs so check em out.
