I'm in AP Physics and AP Calculus, but I can't use radians. Poor me.

Hey man, radians rule. Just remember there are 2pi (about 6.28) radians in a circle (360°) and that you can convert to degrees from radians by multiplying by pi/180. Sometimes radians are much more convenient to work with than degrees.

edit: #960;... bah, forum ate my pi :(

degrees own radians. period.

god damnit!

someone tell me how can I get the exact value (no decimals) of sin pi/3 without using the calculator?

I really don't think theres a practical need to learning a language from star wars..

ROFL!

Good one, Chakra.

Piece of advice: Pie radians = 180 degrees. Do the math, whiners.

Yeah, why the [IMAGE] are you learning radians when you can't even type properly?!

Radians are very useful. Not only in physics (i.e. with things related to rotation) but also in calc and trig. You'll need to learn to use radians sooner are later...and there are a lot harder things out there. So get used to it.

I love radians

I was just pissed cause I didn't understand how to get the exact values of it.

And I don't understand what Charkra said about the Star Wars stuff.

I can type properly and the reason I am learning radians is because I took the [IMAGE]ing course

TFS was right there... but think of it more like a circle.

Pi radians = 1/2 a circle...

pi/2 = 1/3 a circle, etc

N1nj@
November 20, 2004, 12:14 am
isnt pi/2 = 90 degrees = 1/4 circle?

that fuking sniper
November 20, 2004, 12:42 am
Yes, its 90 degrees, I think SP just made a little typo.

easy as 1 2 3...thats how u can remember it

Sin is square routes of 1 2 3 divided by 2 sequentially

Sin 30 (pi/6): 1/2 (since square of 1=1)
Sin 45 (pi/4): (square of 2)/2
Sin 60 (pi/3): (square of 3)/2

Cos is square of 3 2 1 (Opposite of sin)/2

Cos 30 (pi/6): (square of 3)/2
Cos 45 (pi/4): (square of 2)/2
Cos 60 (pi/3): 1/2

Tan=sin/cos

Tan 30 (pi/6): 1/2 divided by square of 3/2=1/square of 3 or square of 3/3
Tan 45 (pi/4): square of 2/2 divided by square of 2/2=1
Tan 60 (pi/3): square of 3/2 divided by 1/2=square of 3

So to answer your question:
square of 3
2

Then you should be moving onto determining other parts of the circle.
There are 4 quadrants. going from top right to the bottom right moving counter-clockwise.

Quad 1=Between 0-90 (pi/2)
Quad 2=Between 90 (pi/2)- 180 (2pi/2===pi)
Quad 3=Between 180 (pi)- 270 (3pi/2)
Quad 4=Between 270 (3pi/2) -360 (4pi/2===2pi)

___Quad 2_____|____Quad 1__
.....Quad 3.......|......Quad 4

Just remember=All Students Take Calculus

or ASTC---All Sin Tan Cos---This refers to when a degree is positive.

If you are required to find a degree of 60 then all will be positive
If you are asked to find 150...then move from 0(x axis of quad 1) to pi/2 and u will land in 2nd quadrant. Subtact 180-150=30. Therefore...

Sin 150 or 6pi/5=1/2
Cos 150=NEGATIVE square of 3/2
Tan 150=NEGATIVE square of 3/3

that was a realy good demonstration there soulsnipa
good on ya

o ninja- if u are ever looking for the exact value when dealing with radians.....

just square the decimal u get then re-write it

i.e

Sin (pi/30) = some fuggered up number right?

square that number on your calculator- then re-right it as a fraction and hey presto

youve got an exact value

Radians are good for exact answers I had trouble with them at first...
But I havn't had a use for them in Calculus or Discrete Geometry yet..

ya, it got me so pissed off because I didn't understand a single thing in that section of the math book. Now I kinda do, I am gonna try the squaring method and see. thanks guys

when i say square of 2 i mean square root of 2....so 1.34 or w/e its equal to. I do NOT mean square of 2 =4...theres just no square root symbol.

The Geologist
November 21, 2004, 6:41 am
Well...they are two totally different things. The square of two and the squre root of two. ;)

Soulsnipa
November 21, 2004, 6:44 am
i know ...the square of 2 is how i say it usually..however technically that means 2 squared (in my language)

so i say it 2 squared thats why i said square of 2 for square root of 2...u follow that?! lol
