Does soldat FINALLY have cancer?

i actually stepped into a server or 3 today and realised that there was nobody playing on any of the servers, and most servers were kinda empty. also, if you log into the forum IRC channel at any time of the day, there's likely to be less than 20 people in there at any one time. so it seems to me that soldat might finally be going to that laggy server in the sky....or am i wrong?

What...?

And maybe because...today's Friday? Friday nights? Girlfriends? Make sense?

And no, Soldat is not getting cancer.

I noticed that. Soldat seemed particularly dead today when I tried to join a game. A LOT of empty servers.

Lives? What are those?

Actually, I've noticed just the opposite of what you're talking about. We have a lack of servers, and with my trusty 'not full and not empty' filter on barely anything comes up when I click the 'request servers' button.

The amount of servers is pretty constant (240 right now) and less than 4% of the servers are still running 1.2

That's your oppinion, here are statistics - http://lobby.soldat.pl:13073/.
If Soldat was a Half-Life mod it would be 8th on the list of most popular mods which is pretty good. Of course it's not any close to Counter-Strike which has 112,671 players and 51,227, too crowdy for me, maybe that's why I don't like it.

Soldat seems just as active as usual. And yes, 8th most popular on a big game like Half-Life is pretty good..but I can only think of 5 Half-Life mods in total :|

- Counter Strike
- Day of Defeat
- CodeName: Gordon
- The Specialists
- Team Fortress Classic

But they are still very popular games, so 3 behind that can't be very bad at all.

Lets throw in the words 'freeware', '2d shoot 'em up' and 'self-published' and things may fall in perspective.

Yeah... if Soldat was published on Steam it would beat all Half-Life mods with millions of players ;). But still it has a larger community than I have ever imagined.

Why don't you try and get it published on Steam then?

Also, steam publishes indy, non HL-related games? I thought it didn't..

Take a break, a long one. Come back, and you discover that soldat is much more fun that it was. Thats how it is for me.

Gotta love the close-knit community there is around here. It's like being in a small town, where if your cow dies, everyone knows about it ten minutes later.

Yes, steam sucks. But it actually might be a good idea to populate soldat more. My friends plays Counter Strike, and its not that bad of a game. Although its not a great game either, I prefer Team Fortress or the third party mod Natural Selection.

what ARE we talking about here??? are you guys doubting the popularity of soldat???

soldat is just as popular as it used to be, the community is still growing and it will do as long as soldat is in development.

so lets not talk nonsense.

You do know some people have lives, right?

Some people have lives, but... I don't.

So be proud, I play Soldat most of my day, otherwise I'm programming or eating. Weee! What a 'life'.

Soldat has the best commuinity I've seen so far.

Not a bunch of idiots with computers. ;D

Cheers!

your talking bout steam?.. like getting soldat on steam?.. damn.. steam is only for valve's software and so..

maybe michal could coporate with some other "lower-class" gamemakers and they could make something like steam.. then soldat would be on top..:P

Why Steam?
Because it's so popular? Because they provide the bandwidth?

Tavy

Probably for popularity and bandwith, as b00stA suggested, but anyway, soldat work how it is now.

Cheers!

Tavy, please stop adding 'Cheers! Tavy' to the end of your posts. We've already established how unnecessary and moronic it is a while ago.quote:Originally posted by Morikquote:Originally posted by Fangus Deefnever give this to those steam monsters. ever.

Well, I've never used Steam before, but if it would bring in more people then why not? According to some on IRC Steam doesn't suck, so I don't see the problem. More people = more money for Michal, and he deserves all the money he can get.

Steam is a good thing, havn't had problems with installing or errors or something like that and it's easy to use. Now the only thing i heard that people had problem with this was when HL2 came, guys trying to get warez or people with low connection.

Thank God this community is small. Less idiots around. But it doesn't matter, since roughly 2/3 of you are morons anyway.

Oh well. Enough of us are smart to somewhat balance this out.

And Michal deserves the money, but it's still a nice small game. Just something about this smallness, underdogness, that I like....

While I detest CS I do like DOD. However, Steam is annoying. It takes much longer to load into games with it.
Also consider this.. do you see how many people make dumb threads in the suggestion forums already? How about the cheaters of Soldat. More people = more dumb suggestions, more potential cheaters, I would like to guess more racists and rude players. Just look at CS. The small community is a blessing to Soldat in a way. Maybe bringing more people in means there will be more registration.. but then there will be a host of morons looking for cracks too, and MM could even LOSE money from something like this. I am fervantly against any form of steam integration (if thats even possible).

i think we should put another thing like steam together. If not then we should just get more people to download the All-Seeing Eye.
