Assassination game mode

Hey, well, the search function wasn't working so I'll just post this suggestion:

This is an idea for a game mode in which there would require more use of tactical abilities in order to achieve a goal.

1 player is automatically selected as a target at the start of the game.
1 team is assigned to protect the target
1 team assigned to kill the target

And there is a time limit in which the the target must survive in.
OR(/and)
The target must reach a destination (in the time limit)

Other notes to clarify:
*The target may have lives in order to get across, say 3, after that the game ends
*Game could be based on score - after each round, the teams switch roles
*Each team may be assigned only a small selection of weapons (eg: protectors can choose from mp5, steyr, and d.eagles; killers can choose from d.eagles, ruger and ak-47 or something)
*Maps could be large or/and complicated areas (indoor/outdoor) - if the target has to reach a destination, make it difficult...


I thought this'd be an ok suggestion, as *I* think that Soldat could use a more tactical atmosphere to give it a bit more depth.

Half of it can be played already: the target must reach a certain point.

This could be done by creating reverse infiltration maps. But of course it is not the same as you described..

anyway, i like the game modes, but who would be the target? and this whould be played without barret, because the target could be taken out easily, if the map has some open space.

The target, as I said, could be randomly selected at the start of the match.
And regarding the barret: That's complicated, yeah...maybe the target starts with a vest so it can sustain 1 shot.

If the player being the target leaves or is kicked, another random player becomes the target.
And maybe of the target player truly sucks, there is a vote option to demote the player from that position.

Reminds me of a President mode I played on halo.
There were two body guards,a president who could only use a pistol,and an attacker or two.It was fun

Been thinking about htis a little more, and have some things to add:

Spawn situation for protectors: IF they die, then there is a default 10-20 second respawn time which will be in the close vicinity of the target player.

for killers: For whenever the target reaches an invisible waypoint placed on the map, the spawn location will change, to make sure that this team will always be close to the target and will not randomly spawn at the start of the map when the target is close to the end. Respawn time: 5-10 seconds.


Waypoints could be part of a new system in which many other people seem to be wanting in the creation of maps - a location layer, as in Starcraft, which can enable triggered events and switches. This would be more accurate than demon's idea of "colliders", in a new topic he started.

to murakumo32: Well, I figure that I can't actually implement this in the game myself, and I have described to some detail what the mode would be like in all but 1 of my posts in this thread.

Nah, that would be completely different to what I suggested Will; although it would perhaps be an entertaining mode on its own.
That's somewhat similar to CTF - just kill your opponent's VIP and you score... and would have no tactics at all, which defeats a main purpose for what I have suggested.

Onto Assassination though (or whatever this should be called) - I think that it'd be helpful to see some more comments...

One more idea: When the target dies, they respawn at a "safe location" - areas on the map which provide physical protection such as bunkers. The ground at a safe location has a special colour to make it noticeable.
(Assassination maps, in my opinion, would be best being large and, to a degree, epic - taking maybe 5 or more minutes to get to the final destination, whether it is through sheer map size, complicated architecture, or a mix of both. And that's without being hunted by a team of people wanting to kill you).

I am not a Soldat map maker so I couldn't judge how difficult it would be to make a map for this game mode, but anything following similar guidelines would probably work.

Well it's just an idea currently. Maybe all weapons could/should be available. If the target has a vest, then chances are that they should all be available.

Nuzz: Well, I actually went through the 7 or so pages of this sub-forum and didn't find anything in the headlines that would directly relate to this idea anyway.

I like this alot, but i have some ideas to add.

1. The target should be delta, the defendees should be bravo, and the assassins should be alpha. I think this would make things easier.

2. About the barrett, there should be alot of bunkers, blockers (whatever they are) and defenders have to scout ahead for snipers, thats the point, I think it might actually be fun leaping from bunker to bunker dodging barrett shots.
