There's an extension for Mozilla Firefox called Smiley Xtra. It's basically a sidebar with a list of 610 smileys hosted on imageshack. Download it here:

You can bring it up by pressing ctrl-shift-x, but this doesn't seem to work with an active text area, so access it from the view - sidebars menu.
