---The long and boring Intro---
SoldatPage hosts maps/mods/clanlinks and applications for everyone.
Youve probably seen people with links to their maps/mods in their signature , and when you click them you automaticly download the mod/map , or , people that just created a map or mod and post a topic in the forums , with a link included that directly downloads that map/mod.

SoldatPage is one of the best providers of such hosting (=Hotlinking/ Direct Linking).
It automaticly uploads your submitted maps/mods to a folder , then adds the Map or Mod to the large map and Mod database , used and viewed by more than 50 visitors a day. Then it sends you the link for the Direct Hosting.

SoldatPage also offers clanlinks:
If you created a clanpage that needs a traffic boost SoldatPage will help you. You just add your clanlink to our datbase. The clanlinks page is viewed and used by more than 50 users per day , so extra traffic guaranteed. The clanlinks page uses a voting system , the more people vote for your site , the higher you will be on the list and thus the more visitors you will get.

All this togheter goes on a 100mbit server , so speed is guaranteed. I only seen my max. internet speed once , while i was downloading the whole database of maps to check them , speed recorded was 1mbyte per second.

/me likes too bad the font is so big :(

Nice design, but the font face you choose sucks...Change it to Verdana size 1 in <b>...

DePhille
January 24, 2005, 4:26 pm
Thx all for the comments :)

m00` , what text is too big actually?

mar77a , I've tried changing the whole page to verdana , but Verdana is a much wider font face so it messes up the pages or I have to shorten almoast all names. Anyways , i've tried several other fonts and came to the conclusion that Arial is the best... It fits perfectly when comparing the size of the face. Altough ur right that arial sucks and that Verdana is the most user-friendly :). ...Maybe i should only change the news-texts to verdana?.... i'll experiment with it.

If you need a new font, I suggest Tahoma, size 8. Readable, elegant, and gracefully defined.

January 24, 2005, 5:53 pm
Thx for the tip , Lapis_Lazuli , Tahoma is excellent for the titles ;).
Maybe i'll change my titles to it somewhere later on :)

Anyways , i've created a lil banner :)
So if anyone wanna Xchange links with Soldatpage:

The code:

Hey, DePhille, try adding a way to tell whether a map has been waypointed or not.

For example, when an author uploads their map, they check this box saying its waypointed, and add that column to the list.

I love the look of your site, it's beautiful to look at. Maybe make the boxes that display Latest Mods and Maps have different corners/edges. They're in such close proximity to the wonderfully made main boxes in the center of the page, that they almost seem too contrasting. By the way, the banner you made is awesome.

DePhille
January 26, 2005, 8:59 am
ahhhh fantastic , Lapis_Lazuli. :)
This is very helpfull indeed , i'll definitely add it:)

Swazo:Wow thx:)
I know , i made the boxes too small...I can't change the font to verdana cuz it's too wide , I can't remove the 'contrast' you are talking about because the boxes are too small...
If i had looked at my stats and saw that only 11% of the people is using a 800X600 (or smaller) screen i would've probably made the website for 1024X768 and larger screens (89%) and then i've could've changed all the fonts and looks....
maybe for a next update :)

Now i really hope i can collect some maps for that site :) would be great to be able to serve a large database of maps and mods for ya:)

Thx FLAB ,
I'm learning PHP databases to see if i can fully automize the webpage , altough i seriously doubt if i will be able to do it :) Looks like The #php IRC-Chan is going to get it tough :) hehehe

If anyone has large map packs they want to put on SoldatPage you can always send them to DePhille@Gmail.com . Thx

Wooohooo!

The PHP Database thing actually worked from the first time :)
Now i just gotta get a free MySQL host just for the database...
(If anyone knows a good one PLZ post it here!)

If the Database will work the website will have some major updates like you can order the maps by whatever , A personal page for each map , a download link , the maps/mods/clanlinks will appear instantly on the website after uploading them , ...

The best thing is that after you've uploaded ur map u'll get an e-mail with alot of information. It'll include the link wich you can give to other people to download your map/mod/app (aka Map Hosting) .

Keep on uploading thm maps/mods/apps/clanlinks!

Add the ability to sort the maps and mods by name, file-size, author, waypoints (for maps), and downloads.

DePhille
January 28, 2005, 7:59 am
Yessssss , FliesLikeABrick hosted a MySQL database for me:) .

Lapis Lazuli: I'm going to add that:) but the filesize will go away from the table. It'll be on another page:
When you want to dload a map now , you just click on it's name. If you click it's name a page will open with all the details of the map (with filesize etc.) + an enlarged screenshot. Also , That page will show a link for the author or for other people that they can give to their friends. If their friends click the link they will download the map. the link will be something like: http://mr.netpub.org/download.php?id=1 => This will also count the downloads and you only have to remind your ID. But this these things will only be upgraded if the databases will work. If they really work well , i'm planning to add a comment system for each map/mod. The update i'm doing with the databases is for the MAPS first. After a while i'll do it for the mods since no-one uploaded a mod yet :).

Comments/ideas are welcome :)

Grtz , DePhille

-------------------------------

ah no , it's way easier to do Clanlinks with the databases first :)
So i'll do Clanlinks first , then Maps , then mods.

This is just a suggestion, but here on the forums, try to edit your previous post when its related to your next one. Just to spare you the flaming you'll get later, DePhille.

Back on topic, you've done a wonderful job on the site and I am truely amazed. Congrats on the excellent layout. I see this becoming the next Selfkill (without the lonnnnggg loading times!)

Wow Lapis , thx for the comments!
I'll try to edit my post next time , i'm sorry , i forgot :)
EDIT: Edited the second post into the first one :p

Anyways , The main part of the database programming is done!!!It worx!! hahaha!!
Never expected it but it worx :)... Now i only gotta make my own dload and vote counter , then the clanlink page will be fully-automated and ready for the web :).

Hi ,

I just put up the database running scripts for the clanlinks page :) i just have to sit back and admin ur clanlinks :)...
clanlinks now appear right after adding them ,
Also there's a voting system,
U can order the clanlinks on name/prefix/...

and much more advantages :)
Hah , this will also happen with the maps and mods page :)
but that will take a lil longer since i gotta manage files etc.
Anyways , plz post anything strange/bug/problem on the website here , otherwise i gotta change code three times...

Ahhhhh!

I've worked a whole week to get this done but finally i can serve one of the best services of Soldat Map Hosting!
The Maps list is now fully automized , wich means that you will receive a SHORT URL link after submitting your map to soldatpage. Maps can now be ordered etc. Also , there are much more properties added for the maps like : 'Custom Scenery' , 'Max. Players' , ... Since the whole code has changed it is MUCH easier for me to add properties when i get some in my head.

I made my work out of this website , now i hope i can store and publish yours!
SoldatPage is currently searching Advertisement (I link to u , U link to me => 88X31 Button). Contact me at DePhille@Gmail.com if you're intrested!

I would like to apologise to the long waiting for the maps to appear but if i would've added them in the old mapslist i would have double work creating the new one.
Also the old one seemed to have a bug in it wich is now repaired , some maps could not be added:
JungleSunset
Area51
UC Map
An unnamed map
DM/TM/RM/PM_ Desktop
4square
Some of those maps are added just for testing i think , they don't contain anuthing valid so they're removed.

Comments/Criticals are welcome!

Hi,

The SoldatPage server has transferred from a 10mbit USA server to a 100mbit NL server. The download speed increased , even for USA users (i get around 1000 KByte/s speeds)
I did this to encourage/benefit and advertise the SoldatPage hjosting system.
I hope you people will use SoldatPage as your default map hoster and advertiser :)

I also did a BIG update on SoldatPage: I made the site wider and added a Shoutbox (TrashTalk) and i added a poll where all you people can vote on :)
Also added some security updates and bug fixes.

Also,
SoldatPages Database has been down for a several days , probably 3 days.
I transferred the whole database to the host where the scripts are at.

Nice skin from invisionize, but im pretty sure your not allowed to remove their copyright. your site also lags my firefox...

great site though

DePhille
March 24, 2005, 2:57 pm
KK youve all been tellin about the skin:

The IMAGES are from extremepixels. They are made for forums , and as you see when you click forums you see the copyright.

i used those IMAGES to make my site , so its realy my template (=design in HTML , images= Design Template) but not my images. Therefore it is legal since the Template is created by me.

Firefox: I might get bad comments for this but it sucks. Every webdesigner gets comments about their site regarding FIREFOX (check it ;) ) , also the big sites like google etc. have received bugs with firefox.
IE is still the best , i know you ppl will flame me for this but IE is still the best.
IE understands ALL tags properly and gives the standard design , no extras etc. like Netscape does (if bgcolor is left blank IE returns a white bgcolor and Netscape a gray-like one)

If you really want a tabbed browser i suggest Opera , it uses the IE engine although it isnt 100% bug free neither , but its waaaaaaaaaay better than FireFox.

Also , IE hyas the best security!
And still there are the most viruses on IE!
=> This is because IE is Windows standard and therefore widely-used , so any virus-creators will makie a virus especially for IE not for FireFox.
If you have problems with your IE update your virusscanners and use a spyware remover. or install SP2 for WinXP (=free install).

PS: please stay on the topic :) , if you have any comments about this topic add them under a PS below ur post that has to do with the website itself :)

yes, the blank white page is very minimalist

btw, firefox rocks, ie is just a load of differnt programs thrown together and is holier than the pope.

heheh agree , thats why u people should use Opera or Maxthon instead of Firefox , firefox has still got bugs sadly enough.

EDIT: I added Image Hosting feature to SoldatPage , so with soldatpage you can now FULLY host your map/mod without using any other service. Use it to introduce your map/mod to the public quickly.

DePhille, you can't convert your audience to IE from Firefox. That's just not the way it works... btw

Is it really that hard to make a all-browser-compatible site? The sites I'm working on now are backward compatible all the way to lynx. It doesn't take much time and slices your complaints you'll hear to near nothing.

I don't even bother going to sites that I can't see in Firefox =/

EH: I made the template two years ago , when i still thought css sucked. Now , two motnhs ago i wanted to give soldatpage a new look and i saw my old template so used that one. Every page is around 500-700 lines of code (i know there are much big open spaces but theres also PHP code that u ppl cant see;) ).I really do want to make it campatible to every browser but i dont know whats going wrong with other browsers , so maybe ill dload firefox one day (heheh ,b****rds , u made me do it eh ;) ) and try to visit my site , but itll take alotta work for the wholepage to be on the HTML standards you see , the background property of TD tags is not supported by other browsers etc. this makes it impossible to make the site viewable for every browser. Altough i hope Firefox does support TD backgrounds....
Ill try and see what i can do , ty

Ultramagnus , u read my post about me updating the site while u were trying to visit it right? it should be all over , inet fixed so it only takes 1sec. to upload the whole bunch of new files.

EDIT:Checked my site using Firefox , its just fine except for some <br> tags that are displayed in IE butnot in Firefox , and except for some Borders that dont appear or do appear while they do/do not on IE.

Using XHTML tags - <br /> - will fix it, right? Whenever I write webpages these days, I try to keep everything to XHTML standard. Makes it easier in the long run.

hmm , ty , ill try to find out an=bout it.
Ive found out that Firefox has a wider password inputbox than IE has.
