-If anyone here has ever played a fighting game (tekken, soul calibur etc.) they know that when an enemy lands a hit, you don't immediately take damage. A section of the health bar dissapears and then the br slowly goes to that spot. So even if you're "dead", you still have a few seconds to try a last ditch effort.
-Also, if someone lands one hit on you and then no more shots hit, the player slowly regenerates that health that was lost. However, if two shots connect in a row, then the health lost from the first shot would be unrecoverable. (street fighter, KOF)
-Just a mode where there aren't any health packs but killing anyone heals about 50% of your health bar. If health is full, then vest bar get's filled also.
