_The Shirt Project_
Soldat Forums - Misc - The Lounge

I was on my way home, when I thought about this.

Michal, creator of soldat, has given us a great game: he has given us a gift.
My idea is, that we send him a gift..a shirt, with the label Soldat on it..but this shirt, would be sent player to player, and it would gain signatures of each player, and in the end, Michal would be holding a Soldat shirt, signed by many players.
However, this project would require us, the players, to pay for the shipping. Are you with me on this one, men?!

Jap_man

good idea, but the chances that its actually going to work, is extremely low.

Tha Doggfather
February 2, 2005, 12:36 pm
Some asshole would probably keep the shirt..

Good idea though

grand_diablo
February 2, 2005, 12:37 pm
Idsupport it, but only "better known" members should be allowed to participate, so we can be safe that no one is just gonna keep the shirt. Also, to avoid years to take, it should be well organised (gathering players of one country, who send it to each other before sending it to the players of the next-nearest country etc...). Additionally, this should be limited to Europe only, the american players could sign a second t-shirt that just goes around the american continent. Cause making one t-shirt go around intercontinentally would make things far more complicated.

DeMonIc
February 2, 2005, 1:03 pm
For now, I'm just measuring the support..ofcourse it wouldn't be sent to everyone, only trustworthy people, and I'd make a "route map", a "who sends to who" list.

Tha Doggfather
February 2, 2005, 1:07 pm
I'd participate.

DT
February 2, 2005, 4:03 pm
make a log at who gets the shirt and such... and we have to know everyones address...
i have some left over x-mas money... so i'm in...

DeMonIc
February 2, 2005, 4:06 pm
I was thinkin about, that if someone get's the shirt, he takes a picture of it, and posts it on the forum, than sends it to the next player.

Alamo
February 2, 2005, 4:20 pm
... and MM gets a greasy, dirty shirt... ;)
But hey, i'd participate (and i'd wash my hands before signing it).
... bad thing is that noone knows his address ;)

I've made a few custom shirts in my time. All ya do is take an image into a shirt specialist, £14 and a day later it's done.

I made my friend a t-shirt with ' \m/ ' on it ^_^

Cool idea, anyone willing to look into the organization details? :D

Vijchtidoodah
February 2, 2005, 10:53 pm
No, no, no...shipping it around would be nearly impossible and if it worked, it would take forever.

All you have to do is:
Design the shirt on Adobe Photoshop
Get anyone who wants to participate to send you their signatures scanned off of a white piece of paper (or they could send in the actual paper and you would scan, or they could just do a little paintshop signature and send it to you)
Then, you go to a local shirt making company
And finally, you talk to them about how to make the design with the signatures on it (they may redraw the design themselves or use yours, and you'll have to help them figure out the placement of the siggys), or you present them with the signatures already on your photoshop image and they'll just go and print it right off

Easy as pie, cheap as cake...

Just doesn't have the emotion of the original idea though..

Vangelis
February 2, 2005, 11:28 pm
Though it doesnt have the "emotion" associated with actually signing it,
Vijchtidoodah's idea has one hell of alot more odds of suceeding. My 2 cents....

?
February 2, 2005, 11:40 pm
I would love it.. but can he read the different languages? (btw if we do this.. I am shipping it to someone in the us.. close to Georgia...)

Vijchtidoodah
February 2, 2005, 11:40 pm
Vangelis, you don't get posts for the bashpit or lounge.

Skate4Razors
February 3, 2005, 12:29 am
I think Vijchtidoodah's way is the best, and yes, I'd love to sign the shirt. Or, actually, sign the paper. =) Who would be the most responsable to get all the signatures onto the shirt though? Also, would we put our signature, our print, and a comment or two?

Kazuki

I am in, but am I a well trusted member? I'd sign the paper, too, but will 6000 signatures fit? I dunno, maybe only recent, consistent (1 for 2 days?) posters?

AerialAssault
February 3, 2005, 6:08 am
?!!! you would ship it to me!!! :D :D :D :D

Vangelis
February 3, 2005, 7:36 am
Whoa, sign the same piece of paper? No,I think what Vijchtidoodah was talking about doing, is each of us sending in a piece of paper,so it can be scanned, and the shirt making company/ whatever can do the rest. That,or writing down your signature, and then scanning, and emailing it to the person responsible for making sure the shirt gets made, and gets sent to Michal. Now,who would that responsible person be? Hmm....

DeMonIc
February 3, 2005, 1:02 pm
The signature would be your nickname, and your nickname only.We can't have 600+ different messages on one friggin shirt.Vijch, I tought of that too, but it's...really not the same.If this thing really get's massive though, I think we'll do it that way.So (almost)everyone could sign it.Yeah.

FliesLikeABrick
February 3, 2005, 2:39 pm
I'd do it, but someone would have to create an efficient route to save money on shipping costs.

b00sta what ever happened to that soldat sticker i was ugnna buy off you haha XD

this would never work by shipping it person to person.. your talking hundreds of dollars of shipping by the time your done lol i say just email images of signatures to one person lol

Skate4Razors
February 3, 2005, 8:09 pm
What if we made a somewhat poll on who can be the most trusted? And, if that person agree's, they can put all the signatures on the shirt.

February 4, 2005, 12:23 am
i think you could pretty easily but a helluva lot of signatures on the shirt (and by signatures, i mean handwritten, like you would sign on a check or something, not a sig picture)

it would just have to be an extremely tiny font, basically the smallest font possible that is still readable

Vijchtidoodah
February 4, 2005, 12:46 am
There's a limit to how precise the shirt printing machines can go.

Magniitude
February 4, 2005, 1:09 am
hehe by the time they print all the signitures on it will look like a bunch of scrawly lines on a t-shirt. sounds great, but a little far fetched?

enjoyincubus
February 4, 2005, 4:07 am
I think the North American/European divide would really help. If someone would start a list...i.e. location by state/province/county, address, assorted necessary mailing info. It's a shirt. It'll weigh, what, 2 kg at the most? We did a similar project following third grade, only involving a giant teddy bear. It was shipped globally. After each shipment, we can confirm it's movement. If someone assigned does not report any shipment, then that person can be banned/publically humiliated here on the forums. Some sort of incentive.

I think Michal would feel so terribly honoured to see a project of this 'magnitude'. Either that or he's too creeped to reply. ;]

AerialAssault
February 4, 2005, 4:22 am
is he gonna wear the shirt in public? lol

spydark
February 4, 2005, 4:28 am
simply, copy the addresses that are trustworthy on paper...put it in the box with the shirt then when people get it...they will cross of there name then send it to the next address....count me in ;)

Vangelis
February 4, 2005, 7:12 am
He wouldnt want to wear the shirt in public, I immagine he would put in some kind of case or something. Besides,if he did wear it, he would be mobbed when he walks around in public, because hes famous because of Soldat =D.

Unlucky 13
February 4, 2005, 7:22 am
LOL, that would be true, but I would pay for the T-Shirt shipping IF I knew what that was :/.

Anyway, the printed way sounds better, more fair :/

Vangelis
February 4, 2005, 7:54 am
Expanding from Vijchtidoodah's idea, for people in the United States, I think it would be best if we sent in/scanned and email our signatures to the person responsible for making the shirt,to avoid high shipping charges, and save time. For those in Europe, sending the shirt from person to person would probably work. Just an idea.

Liquid Metal
February 4, 2005, 8:28 am
Riiiight... But would we sign our real names or just our soldat names? Shipping it 2 every play would be impossible so I'll go wif the scan and send idea.

Unlucky 13
February 4, 2005, 11:09 am

But How would that be a sig?
Maybe my LOL sig? Nah, too big.

b00stA
February 4, 2005, 2:06 pm
I'll ask my father what's the best way to transfer it to the shirt. You can "print" it or cut it using a plotter (the kind of thing you see in my room in the desk topic). It probably depends on the amount of signatures too.

spydark
February 4, 2005, 3:57 pm
how many people are in the forum?

we could send it to about almost half the people

SuperKill
February 4, 2005, 4:15 pm
well, why a shirt?

Rhombus
February 4, 2005, 4:24 pm
I would sign it, keep it for a few days, wipe my ass off with it, sell it on e-bay, steal it back, paint it black (i love that song) and burn it.

SuperKill
February 4, 2005, 5:11 pm

grand_diablo
February 4, 2005, 5:27 pm
well, actually that signing and emailing the signature to one guy who has the shirt is a great idea.

You just need transfer paper to print the signatures on it and then iron it to the Tshirt. We did this recently at our school with photos and it worked well. A normal white tshirt sized L should not be too expensive too.

Im gonna buy a blank t-shirt and that transfer papers (or I get them from school for free) soon.

I hope many of you have a possibility to "digitalize" your signatures via a digicam, USB drawing pad or a scanner.

So if you don't have anything against, I could do the signature gathering and printing, and I would also pay the shipping costs for the t-shirt from Austria to Poland.

grand_diablo
February 5, 2005, 1:29 am
b00st: no worries, all I need are 2 (maybe 3, if I cut the third to get the sigs onto the side too) transfer papers, a white T shirt of good quality, which i maybe will buy tomorrow, well, and an Iron, to Iron the signatures onto the T-shirt once theyre printed out.

As soon as I got the shirt, I will start accepting signatures, stay tuned.

I think that this is a ridiculous idea. We need to think of something else.

The Geologist
February 5, 2005, 4:41 am
Why? Sending the shirt all over the world for personal signatures would be too much (although it would be amazing...but there are too many chances for the shirt to get held up or lost). Sending all the signatures to one place to have them collected and printed would make things much more efficient and convenient.

i think that printing the signatures on is a waste of the idea. they have to actually be written on or it is 100% not as good of an idea.

Vangelis
February 5, 2005, 7:50 am
Well,we do have to admit, that sending the shirt to EVERYONE that wants to participate, would take months. And immagine if it got lost? All that money and effort, down the toilet. Its almost impossible. With sending in our signatures, atleast we will have a scapegoat to blame if this doesnt work out *cough grand diablo cough*. Sure it doesnt have the same
"feeling" about hand signing our signatures onto the shirt, but then I wouldnt want a year old, dirty, peice of crap that has circled the globe, and I dont immagine that Michal would, either. It isnt the best plan, but atleast we got some kind of guarantee.

Vijchtidoodah

if all you guys were willing, i could just get you guys to send me your sig's and i could get my printing guys to do it. i guess i could probably get the shirt as well, BUT i'd need to find out michal m's address, and his shirt size.
but enough of talking about it, let's do it... as soon as you guys approve.
i'd also need to find out the cost of sending the shirt (post and handling, shipping, etc)
so if one of you guys could find out, can you tell me how much it costs?
