My favorites:

- Children of Bodom (I also think Alexi Laiho is a good guitarist, but he looks like a woman from the rear ..oh and I like his Flying V guitar..I want one like that)
- FinnTroll
- Immortal (probably my favorite)
- Emperor
- Burzum (just the band not the evile puritan who makes it up)
- Amon Amarth (I really like their guitar style)
- Borknagar (Only 3 or 4 songs I liked though. Mostly all from one album)
- Kalmah (A lot like Children of Bodom ..and like Immortal in a way that they're obsessed with swamps as opposed to Immortal being obsessed with Winter. lolse. They have mostly good songs, but Doubtful About It All is better than all the rest by far)

His birthday is one day before mine (the 6th of February) so I was going to go to jamaica for my birthday and celebrate both on Bob Marley day (it's actually a holiday there.) Instead I used that potential vacation to buy a new PC that hasn't worked as of yet. Oh well.

It boils down to what you think is "real" metal...I've seen plenty of metal bands, big and local, and it does get a little boring after a while when you've listened to the stuff for a good portion of your life. Viva variety.

i hate to admit it, but he's got a point. IMO black metal sucks altogether whether or not its "real" simply because its just intellecually inept music. which is why i listen to Tool, my favorite bands make me feel smarter than other people when i analyze the lyrics. to me, the basis of the music has to be centered around the singer, and not the guitarist and how loud he can get his amp. but that leads me to why i hate emo, they have bad singers. but any band that have any words like death, hate, destruction...etc in their names are pretty much a joke to me. find a way to move me with your lyrics and vocals or i'll stay away.

Jello
February 16, 2005, 1:50 am
Oscar Wilde once complained that people now regard art as some sort of form of autobiography. This is the main problem I have with emo. Save all that "my girlfriend dumped me" stuff for your angsty online journal. Write songs with some intelligence that move me to thought instead of blind emotion, and maybe I'll listen.

First of MUSIC should be centered around the finished product. It needs to sound good, not just the singer. Black Metal bands dont crank up the distortion, infact they are a genre of metal that centers around music as a whole and not little riffs stringed together. You listen to Tool to feel smarter? Great reason. If I want to analyze poetry I will do it from REAL masters of literature. OMG MAYNARD USED PERSONIFACTION...HE IS T3H G3NIUS! His lyrics do not take any analyzation, they are almost straight foward. Not all Death/Black and other metal sing blatantly about torute, pain, death...so on.

IMMOLATION - Of Martyrs and Men

These are probably as deep as Tool's lyrics
quote:
Burdened by the world, too weak to deal with life
Bow to show your love, bow to show devotion
Drowning in the sickness that vomits forth deceit
Fear not what is said, but fear what you believe

Ravaged by their words and into their open arms
Like thieves they'll steal your mind and use it to control
An endless sea of faces, an endless sea of loss
Take your place in line and serve them until the end

Do you think you follow greatness
Do you think you follow the divine

Do you think you are the chosen
Do you think you are the few

A genocide of faith
The faithful wait their turn

Just like slaves...hand in hand
Just like ghosts...souls in hand

You take their lives
You take our hearts
You have no shame

You shake the world
Dramatic stage
For your own gain

You say you're men
We know you're cowards
You pitiful fools
The true strong remain

Just like slaves...hand in hand
Just like ghosts...now you're damned

Oh, Immortal Technique is nice.

i love how anyone who isnt a Tool fan stereotypes us to worship Maynard. i never said i listen to music to make me feel smarter, i listen to what i do because i enjoy it for a multitude of reasons, the intellecual aspects being one of them. and Tool has some very subtle messages in their lyrics such as the grudge making references to greek philosophy.

Lots of metal bands also make allusions especially Black Metal. When I want to expand my mind I read real literature made by true masters of the art.

Aside from the hypocritical nature of your two posts, if you think the main draw of an electirc guitar for metal, black metal, or anything else is simply how loud the amp can get then you're sorely mistaken. The way you judge a book by its cover is rather amusing.

Yea, I am not saying metal is the best music. I like it a lot, but I like most genres too.

theres nothing hypocritical about my posts. theres a difference between me feeling smarter, and me listening to something for the sole purpose of attaining knowledge. either way, i dont like black metal because its too heavy for my tastes, simple as that.

His new album is alright?

Ya like necro...because he sampled "Zombie Ritual" by death. Not a big fan of all that but my bro is.

The Art of Dying? Its a little short, but it's a pretty solid album. Necro gave him some dope beats, and Goretex knows how to kill it.

I won't give you a brake (or a break for that matter), but I will give you a lesson on the differences between a break and a brake.

give someone a break
1. Give someone a chance or special consideration.

brake: A device for slowing or stopping motion, as of a vehicle, especially by contact friction.

But I generally am not so much a "band/artist" person as I am for individual songs. For instance, allthough I don't particularly like disco as a genre nor do I like any disco groups, I do like "I feel Love" by Donna Summers" and "Menergy" by Patrick Cowley. A few other singles, "Send me an angel" by Real Life, "Ballroom BLitz" by Sweet, "Parabola" by Tool, "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder, "Edge of Seventeen" by Stevie Nicks, ect...

Becouse I am a musician *stands proudly* I have to respect ALL artists, their songs and the type of music they perform. Exept for circus music. It remings me of clowns and clowns make me go m00.

For real: I mostly listen to rock, maybe a bit of rap(thats why I like Rage Against The Machine, it has both). I'm suprised nobody mentioned(or maybe somone did but I didnt see it couse I'm too lazy to check all of the 6 pages) NWA. Now THATS old school hip hop. [IMAGE] tha police!
