Speakeasy has a new service called FileCloud.

They're offering 100mb of file space and free access to private servers with hundreds of game files, mods, patches, and even utilities like firefox, spybot, etc, all on your own private server with blazingly fast speed.

You can even share files with your friends, by making the files you upload for your friends only or even totally private. They also let you manage your own server's file space with folders, sub-folders, and all sorts of other goodies.

On the downside, only the first 10k people to sign up get it free for a month or two to come. Everyone else has to pay!

I believe its free until they get 10k signups. I'm just leeching them for all the freaking high-speed downloads, I mean, I've never seen my connection fully utilized before. Sign up and download something near you.. if you live in the USA, you'll be pretty damn surprised at the speed you get.

To be honest, I don't really see the point. I mean, ok, if you could download full software (Like you can with Bit-Torrent) at super-high-speeds then it would be great, but it's just demos, movie trailers, patches...stuff you can download anywhere really. Only difference is, is the speed [for people inside the US], which isn't that big of a deal seeing as most of the files are no bigger than 20mb, therefore making the noticeably of the speed's effect on the amount of time one has to wait very small. "Wow, thank God I didn't have to wait those extra 5 minutes when I downloaded patch [X]" - I.e. Not a big deal.

Great, it's a place to store your stuff, but it's only 100mb [Which is gonna cost $$ in a couple of months) whereas Gmail has 1000mb storage space, it's free and getting an account is this little beauty makes it even easier to store ya [IMAGE] would you want to upload a 500mb + file when you could just burn it. Gmail's more for storing pictures, music, work, videos, just those small, but important things. Furthermore, even if you wanted to upload a big file to 'FileCloud', 100mb is all you got, and what file, that isn't either a big porn movie or small illegally downloaded game [both of which you're not allowed to upload], is 100mb and is so important that it has to be backed up? Remember, you can't just upload any random crap, it has to belong to either one of the 'Demos, Mods, Patches, Utilities, Drivers, Media or Multiplayer' categories. Now, which one of you guys has one of those sitting on your hard-drive and really wants to upload it?

Don't get me wrong though, I appreciate you trying to give us a more efficient downloading alternative to the norm, but I really don't see what all the fuss is about. In my opinion, FileCloud = Pointless.

You can host anything you want there, and it doesn't have to fit into one of the categories you're given. You're able to make your own or simply upload them straight into your file space.

i know, but it'd take 45 minnutes to upload, and it's all too large...
