Ya, there is.

First off, are you behind a router? If so, you'll need to forward port 23073 [or whatever port you wish Soldat to run on] to the computer you wish to run the server on. Also, you'll need to forward (server port + 10), so if you're using port 23073, the default port, you'll also need to forward 23083 to the computer you wish to host a Soldat server on. Another example, If you want to run it on port 500, you'll need to forward both 500 and 510 to that computer.
If you're not, post describing how your network is setup.

Don't forget to set your "Network: Connection:" setting to the appropiate type of network game you wanna play, in the Options menu. If the other people wanting to play are on your server, you'll need to set that option to "LAN", if they are not, you'll need to set that option to "Internet".

ouff... they are a little complex.
okay, this is how we'll do it. i'll ask a series of questions and you answer them to the best of your ability.
are you the network administrator? did you setup the network?
what kind of network are you behind?
is this a school/home/work network?
are you behind a router?
do you have access to this router?
double click here, and tell me what comes up

If there is a way to run a dedicated server through a network, I would please like to know. I am used to having a server up 5-10 hours a day, and I can't do that now that our house PC's are networked. So someone very good with running servers and the internet in general please help. I have fast internet, and I want my spot on the server list!!!!! Oh, and I can't run it on my dad's PC (at the front of the network) either. I know it has to do with my hardware firewall....I just can't make it work!!!!!

I set up the network,
It's a D-Link Airplus 614+ if that matters,
I am a client (wireless),
It's a home network with 3 PCs,
I am behind a router,
I have perfect access to the router if that comes in handy,
and when I try to open the page, I cannot on my PC, but I can on my dads......

I like having fast internet in my room, and I am glad I have a good impenetratable firewall, but right now it is making me mad!!!!!!

CJ

PLEASE HELP MEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!

well, if you have access to the router, then it's not that difficult.
- find your internal ip, probably something like 192.168.0.2 or something
- then click here
- goto Advanced options
- click on Port Forwarding, or Forwarding, or something or the like. depends on the make of the router
- now enter your internal IP in an empty slot, set the port to 23073, and set up and down stream
- now enter your internal IP again in an empty slot, set the port to 23083, and set up and down stream
- save your settings and there you go. it should work.

I went to the place you told me to, and went to advanced options.

However, I did not see anything like Port Fowarding.....Here is what I saw:

Name______________
Private IP____________
Protocol Type_TCP_
Private Port______
Public Port_______

those were the only places that you had input on......I didn't know what to do then, and after checking every other thing I could at the site, I was unsure and now I find myself writing in again for help.

thanks,
CJ

Okay, what you want to do is goto Virtual Server and enter this information:
Name [anything, like Soldat server]
Private IP [the ip to the computer the soldat server is on, ie: 192.168.0.3]
Protocol Type_TCP_ [leave that at TCP]
Private Port: 23073
Public Port: 23073
Schedule: Always

you need to do this twice, the second setup will look like:

Name [anything, like Soldat server 2]
Private IP [the ip to the computer the soldat server is on, ie: 192.168.0.3]
Protocol Type_TCP_ [leave that at TCP]
Private Port: 23083
Public Port: 23083
Schedule: Always

this should hopefully work

Thanks ToadSmoke.

I finally figured it out, and there was only one problem with the info you got me, which had to do with the protocol type. I changed it to all, and it began to work fine. The only thing is, the game server shuts down and comes back up every once in a while.

Still can't do it :(
that link didn't work.
i'm crap at networks but i'll try to explain a little more.

comp1(internet)<-->Comp2(one i want as server)<-->comp3(unimportat)

comp 1 has 2 networks cards, one for the broadband modem, and one for the network.

i have access to everything.

i always thought soldat used udp not tcp

enjoyincubus
February 17, 2003, 3:15 pm
Soldat does use UDP instead of TCP....I found that out when trying to set up virtual servers on my firewall. It wouldn't work using TCP, so I switched it to UDP, and it worked after that.

Most game servers use UDP. I don't really know any game that actually use TCP.

Weeeell

I've worked on 3 home routers before and the default pass has always been User: Admin Pass: 1234

If that doesn't work, either find your user manual and look in there, or post your model and brand and we'll find out.

(Me is working on mah CCNA and am willing to help with any network related problems)

Another IMPORTANT thing to note if your running a server behind a router... Most home routers will have you set up DHCP as a default. This means that if you set up a server on Comp A, the router might give Comp A's IP address to Comp B at random, and then all of your soldat information goes to comp B, where there isn't a server and it gets discarded. I'll write up a how-to to set up static IP's or set up Static/Dynamic IP combo's.

Ur routers ip might be something else than http://192.168.0.1/ . Try http://192.168.1.1/ or http://192.168.3.1/ .
Mine is http://192.168.2.1/ . Only a thought.

Nebby: i have the same thing as you Nebby except that i only have 2 computers instead of 3. I feel your pain.

Comp1 <---> Comp2

Comp1 is mine and has two network card installed.

One of the network card is connected to the cable modem, and the other one is connected to Comp2.

Comp2 is my sister and has one network card installed which is connected to Comp1.

ok i think i have the solution (me also on CCNA)

(only applies to home networks. warning: do not try this at school or work(well only if you video tape it for us)
1. get a sledgehammer
2. get it to "communicate" with your firewall/router
3. remove peices
4. plug cord from internet=>firewall so it internet=>computer
5. ask yourself why do i so badly need a firewall, its not like i have top-secret documents.
-or-
5. ask yourself why do i have a router for a network of under 15 computers?

Abaddon : Your useless

Ok, well not everyone has a router at http://192.168.x.x, for instance, mine is http://10.0.0.1
Read your router's instruction manual for details!!! That should have all the info you need. Look for PORT FORWARDING or FORWARDING.
