The vegetables you eat contain more aspartame than diet products (like diet coke) and it simply isn't unhealthy, unless you have a rare disease, in which case you avoid those products since they're marked as those.

This is a concerning issue. I never really believed this because it has spread as a rumor (chain mail, inspired by a conference), and has little to no scientific backup. People, especially ignorants, easily blame their ilnesses that a doctor can't cure on the first thing they can, and this is the ideal bait - the reason it spread so fast. On the other side, the scentifical evidence provided by MIT (most trustable) and others is funded by companies that use aspartame (namely Nutrasweet). All of this is very fishy. It's all about money anyway, so I doubt we'll never know the truth. Products with aspartame in them suck, so it's not a problem. You should avoid them out of principle anyway, even if there was no aspartame 'poison' ^_^

I've heard a while ago that aspartame has been linked to cancer, but impotence + blindness is a risk I'm not willing to take...
I noticed a few weeks ago that I got a headache a few hours after I chewed some mints containing aspartame. I'm not sure if it was related but I have not got a headache since I stopped eating the mints :P

Aspartame being dangerous might not be true, but I'd much rather be safe than sorry ;)
