If Soldat crashed when you try to play chernobyl, do the following.
1. Reinstall Soldat and then try again
2. Upgrade to the latest DirectX drivers.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx
3. If all those fail, go to your Soldat folder
Default is C:\Soldat
4. Go to Scenary-gfx folder
5. Locate backgromirrored.bmp
6. Open the file with a picture editing program. (I used paint)
7. If you're using paint, select all, delete, and then resize the image so that it is significantly smaller. For example, my backgromirrored.bmp image is 277x373 pixels and is 303 KB.
8. Once you resize the image and clear it, chernobyl should work. The only downside is that you cannot see the image, but the map still looks great without it.
