Well as we all know, every soldat player was once a newbie.
And I'm sure everyone can remember the times when you played or asked questions that you find funny now :)

I myself can't remember much since it was more then 3 years ago.
However, I do remember 1 specific time, I think it was just when I started playing, maybe my second game.

I was in a server with some guys, a DM in Arena, which was the most popular DM map back then.
And I just didn't know how to throw nades ^_^! I kept throwing my weapon insted.
So I asked , ofcourse they all laughed at me :) but eventualy one of them told me its E, and that was the end of that.

So what's your story?

When i first played Soldat I just wanted to control it with only the keyboard...as I had always previously played DOS games.

I began to play in soldat server (internet) when i had a good level. So I was a noob with boogie man et poncho lol during one year, and after i played in internet. (now since one year)
My level was basic, and i didn't inderstand the words "noobs, wtf, rofl, ffc...". I never camped (with an Ak it's stupid lol).
One way, FĂ©lix said me a thing in English (the spray), and my god i undertood nothing^^

I had never played a game online where you had to get flags so I felt like a total idiot asking what I was supposed to do when I finally got one (I actually read the manual, but didn't understand that my own flag had to be in the base too, so I had no clue what to do).

Then I barretted my way around (I was so good with that thing) until people started kicking me and telling me that I was hacking, so I switched to the ak and was awesome until the newest version came out and people began whining that it was over powered, so now I'm almost purely ruger and deagles in realistic and survival and, instead of ignoring the people who persist in whining, I've learned to whine right back at them -- and relieve a little stress, too.

hm, first time i played soldat, i remember, it was on a public dm server
i was using minigun, i thought that the weap at the top of the list
were more powerful than the others at the bottom, ye stupid lol
but it was f****** funny to control a mini soldat, so, great first experience :P, I didnt know how to shoot with the law, and i didnt know
how to fly.. I remember too, i started with a friend, we were using m79,
and when we were doing duel, we were just jumping and try to kill the other one ( who is low ), so when the duel were finished, the results was something like 3-1 :P

I have always had a knack for games, when I first started to play Soldat I was a natural. I have other gaming experience so it came pretty easy. I never really had any stupid questions or things like that. I picked up this game faster than a crack-whore picking up her next fix...

I still am a noob, well to some anyway, considering I only started playing properly in 1.1.5. I used to barret camp behind that bush above the gap in the middle of B2b, I was doing this right up untill I joined SaD; but then I was too scared to do anything wrong :O

when i first played (1 version up from 1.05b) i went These weapons must be in the wrong order, miniguns the biggest, so it MUST be the best weapon.. i chose it and coulent get 1 kill, then my friend who showed me soldat said: use mp5, it has fast spray and quick reload, i used it but found it wasnt my style, then i saw the desert eagles... i was in love with them, i use deagles more then any other weapon since that day.

Soldat was the first computer game I ever played. When I started I only used my computer for music and work, I only knew the basics. Then, my friend Rafe (ometeotl on the forums) showed me Soldat while I was round his house (He's the f**ker who got me into playing computer games!). I remember being confused at first cause I thought it was 3d and you were looking down on the soldiers from the tops of buildings (the terrain being the tops of the buildings). Don't ask.

Yeah...my noobish moments. I remember when I first downloaded the WWII mod made by Kairi and used it, I asked people who entered my server if they liked it (I thought it applied to anybody in the server). I thought camping in the base in Bunker with a shotgun and shooting any bot that came near was fun. That's about all I can remember.

The very first time I downloaded Soldat (since I heard it was better than the Stick Soldiers series*) I hadn't checked Config.EXE, so my FPS = -5. Literally, it showed a still image every 5 seconds xD I immaturely resolved that it sucked, and forgot about it 'til almost 3 years later, where I've come back (a friend showed me a movie of it and I was absolutely shocked), unchecked Antialiasing (*rofl*), and am now fragging n00bs & hackers and making a mod B-)

Fortunately, I had some friends who [had] played it, so I was able to practice 'nade-throwing (IMO, touching them to detonate is too easy) and asking how to use the rocket launcher xP

* - one of the first awesome games I played and still remember of. Read my sig. below.

Hmm...

I remember those days. I thought the minigun was the ultimate soldat weapon, I actually believed i can mow down an entire team with it XD! Then I try to use the law... I remember standing there clicking like a maniac wondering why wont this thing didn't do anything. Then I started getting pissed at people because they threw knives at me. I thought i had to press E to throw it, lol. Oh yes, all the times I killed myself because of that.

Ah, yes. I remember the first time I ever started up Soldat. I went to Arena, still clad and named as Soldier, and somehow oblivious enough to wonder how to pick up boxes.

Before long, I had customized my sleek default-yellow, default-red, and default-light-blue color scheme and was happily blasting on the 3 random bots with my new weapon of choice, the Minigun. For a long time, I did just that, always going to Arena for deathmatches with 3 random bots. Although I didn't honestly stick with the minigun that much -- it's always been a tradition of mine to switch weapons frequently unless I'm in a bad situation. I usually have something different on every respawn.

I evolved over time, favoring CTF over DM, then INF over that, frequently changing the color of my pants, changing dog tags to gold chains, and beginning to love the MP5. Over a course of years, I evolved from a minigun-toting idiot into the fine, extremely handsome and MP5-toting idiot you see today.

My shirt is still the default red, though. For old time's sake.

I remember experimenting with all of the weapons to try and find the one that suits me best.

I also remember creating a clan with the buddies that showed me this game on the second day that I played it. Afterwards, this clan was left to me becuase these friends of mine left Soldat and carried on. I had a bit of trouble running it, seeing as how I knew no one from the Soldat community. However, I managed to get it running and we were alive for a few weeks. During this time, I played Soldat a lot and my level of skill dramatically increased. I remember that as soon as I went into a server without my tag on, I was offered a spot on the recreation of clan Phoenix (.phx). Snowden was also in the server, and at the time he was at about my level. We both ended up joining .phx, along with Marbire, VernonJr., and BMF. That same night we became [PC] and kicked the crap out of Akai, which was a superpower clan. After [PC], I didn't consider myself a noob anymore, except for the fact that I started playing Soldat in version 1.1.5. -_-

True; when I was still a young li'l n00b I adored weapon 4. I only tried 0 once, and hated it because it was so weak, terribly inaccurate (hardly half of the bullets truly follow the cursor) and took forever to charge.

Ah, when I first started to play Soldat, I came from a game called Infantry (www.infantryonline.com). The game was over head, and a bit slower than Soldat, but it was still fun. I was used to playing in matches that had about 50 people in it, and sniping being a bit harder.

I started playing Soldat, and I was a sniper, and it was so much easier than infantry, and OF COURSE, everyone all got mad, and whined "BARRETARD". The game was so much more fast pace, but I didn't have much of a problem adapting. Infantry died down so much, from 1000 people per server, to 100; so I stopped playing, and play this now. That was a while ago (A few years.).

ive been gaming for a while so i think i knew pretty well what to expect, and i got pretty good, pretty fast

When I started I didn't know how to use the Request Server button. The only way I joined was by IPs. I would always ask my friends what the IP to the server was and the port. I even thought that when you jumped and shot your deagles and threw a grenade and it hit someone. That you were one of the great players. I didn't know how to prone and shoot a law for about 4 months. I was to afraid to ask people in public servers. i didn't want to get flamed.

My memory as a noob was like this:

I used to play in servers with many players on it. Everytime I got killed by a camper, I used to tell him "OMG YOU CAMPER!" or "STOP CAMPING!" and more other things. Then everyone started saying "Hey! this guy doesn't like camping" and after a while EVERYONE... repeat... EVERYONE! was camping and against me! It was a deathmatch and EVERYONE was killing me like it was rambomatch and I was rambo... That's why I hate them.

first off: what I am telling you is actually true, it happened to ME, and is NOT a tutorial for noobs, but should be considered that way.
1. I don't know how i got to the game, but that doesnt matter, I started by going to the options screen (old habit, wanna know what i can customize or do)
2. I checked the controls, went to the player screen and created my character, the way I look myself (I now have an ogre :))
3. I started playing against boogie man, cuz I liked his name. (That's why I always pick him to test my new mod, when I made a new weapon.)
4. I thought, well, this is going nicely, but I bet I really get owned online. I went to an online game and constantly finished 1st or 2nd, guess I got talent ^^ (prolly just a noob server I dunno)
5. I first liked the steyr, but I got a weird feeling bout that weap, like its queer or something. Anyway, I switched to M79 a long time ago but still use everything every now and then.

i always played with bots, because soldat only worked on my laptop. i wasted about a year or two making bots, maps, and about 10 different user names until a finally got soldat to work on my desktop. when i first went online, with months and months of self-training... i sucked. always thought that no one could possibly have better aim than bots... i was right, but i forgot that people had strategy. now i've learned that the steyr isn't the best.

I remember when my friend showed me Soldat 1.2.0, and he started me off with some bots. So, after a while I got good at killing the bots (in my opinion), then I joined a server, and got raped. I didn't know how to type or anything either. I kept yelling outloud, WHAT THE F*CK, How'd he dodge that? I also didn't know to run and jump, so everyone was faster than me. And I dunno if I ever had a name as Soldier, but the first name I can remember having was Rock 'n' Roll Soldier.

The only thing I really remember was getting used to the controls. They seemed so floaty, since I was expecting something like the instant start and stop you get with almost all FPS and sidescrolling games. So yeah, inertia took some getting used to. That and the slight pause between crouching and actually lifting off for a jump. I also kept rolling unintentionally. Amazing what you can do with just 4 movement keys. :p

I think I also accidentally hit the grenade key once while trying to reload (before I even knew how to throw grenades). That was interesting.
