Two things you should know.
1. You need a 'licensed', registered, non-warezed version of windows XP to be able to install Windows Vista.
2. Why would you wanna? it's in beta, 64bit OS won't run applications faster that aren't adapted for 64bit.
As for if something like soldat would run on it....not a clue. From what my friend tells me (a registered beta tester for microsoft), it doesn't do much at the mo, though it's still quite impressive.

soldat should run fine on both. i believe my roomate played it fine on windows 64 bit, and we probably wont know about vista until late next year, or until someone on here happens upon it.

... as far as i thought i knew....
windows 64 bit wasnt an upgrade as such, more of a complete overhaul involving total reinstallation? hence if so it'd be handy if you've got a partitioned drive there sugarpie.
i would expect pretty much total backwards compatability with any game that works on xp, with the usual exceptions, else MS are doing a lot of their own foot shooting. as soldat is reliant on directx, a MS inhouse technology, it should be fine.
i thought i read that Longhorn/Vista had 'a totally new way of bringing media to life!!!1111' or something. basically theyve redone the graphics handling so that the new version has the next generation of the 3d graphics output handling built into windows. so directx is no longer a standalone thingy -> could cause some problems. but expect snazzy graphics in your windows. i think (and without going away to look it up) it was codenamed avalon. but then i thought i heard that theyd taken all that out of the beta, in order to get it to work and be able to ship a product by the end of 2006.
