I'm looking for any particularily fun RPG/Action/Adventure games that you guys may know of. I prefer them if they're free.

Don't point me to any of the following sites, or games with spyware, or annoying online browser games (such as runescape).

Abandonia (and Reloaded)
Home of the Underdogs
Dosgames.com
CNET/Download.com/ZDNet

Thanks.

my only suggestion would be Tibia.
dont be fooled by the 2d graphics, it could get addictive once you leave rookie island.
the fun factor for this game is that you lose incredibly much once you die, so it makes PK'ing much more fun; people whine at you in hilarious ways.

dont worry about the game being abandoned, too.

genesis
shining force 1 and 2
faerytale

Those are the best ones I can think of atm. PM me if yu don't know where to get them.

Monday Game Review: Tibia

Pain Level: Being stuck inside a mad house, with 900 volt charged metal barb wires flying at you at 300 miles per hour.

Tibia, like most of the games today, is a RO style MMORPG. And if you think RO is good, then Tibia is very good.

Opps, that last paragraph was misleaded by a friend. Lets call him....i don't know.....Larry.

My readers, this game is so bad that even (Please refrain from swearing) would have chose the SARS virus instead of this game. My guess is that this game is actually made sometime before (Please refrain from swearing) is born. You know, the Medieval period, or whenever that Bible Stuff happened.

After Larry had lead me to this game, he let the game take over, and proceeded to brainwash me. Once I go into their web site, I was instantly overwhelmed by the brown and yellow colors that filled my screen. I forced my retinas to look towards the screen, and proceed to another page with the same color theme, and another, and another....after about 10 pages of filling in infomation, i was finally able to get into the amazing world of Tibia!!

Oh wait....It said that i have to wait for an email in order to play. So i logged on my email and waited...nothing. I waited for another hour, yet still nothing. Determined to play the game, i proceeded to fill out another 10 pages of useless information, and checked my email again. This time, i was successful, because i got though the server's 133 mhz computer. Then i happily launched myself into the exciting world of Tibia.

When I first got in, i chose one of their servers as my Cyber Home, Then i was greeted with the following message.

"This server is currently full, only Premium members could enter now."

Seeing that i am not welcome here, i proceeded to another server, only to find this message.

"Your character does not live in this server, if you want to play on this server, please create a new character."

What? I spent a whole 10 minutes of my life creating my Kick Ass character, Dr. Fish Flake, and i can't even move him to a less Cyber-Hobo infested area? My Cyber-Character is DOOMED!!!

After about an hour of continually clicking on my home server, i was finally let in, since the server bouncer decided to be a Jerk and stuff. I went inside, hoping to see ultra cool lights and graphics, but was instead treated to a top down view of my character, in a room with two other people known as NPC. I walked up to one, hoping to seek some advice. I started a conversation.

Dr. Fish Flake: Hello

NPC: Hi there, welcome to the world of Tibia, in here, you can have some fun! But first, you are not allowed to go out of the city until you are level two.

Dr. Fish Flake: How do i level up?

NPC: ...........

Seeing that my new friend is not very chatty, i started a new conversation

Dr. Fish Flake: Hi

NPC: Hi there, welcome to the world of Tibia, in here, you can have some fun! But first, you are not allowed to go out of the city until you are level two.

Dr. Fish Flake: Do you like horny bunnies?

NPC: ............

After saying that, i believed i have finally insulted the character, oh well, he made an Ass of himself anyways.

Having no help from the wise old man who stood in a room all day, i walked out of the room, and saw about 50 other people like me. I decided that they are wearing gang colors, and tried to join them.

Dr. Fish Flake: Hello there, can i join your gang?

TibiaFreak01: F*** off NOOB!!

Seeing that this gang is not accepting any new members, i walked around by myself, until i saw a hidden enterence to a cave. (Hint: The enterence is in the middle of the map!! SHHH!!)

After going in the Secret Cave of the Underground City, i equipped my magical club and went on my marry way. Why is my club so magical you ask? because no one can see the club at anytime! MUAHAHAHAH!!

After walking around the cave, i come across a creature so terrorfying, that it is only known as..."Rat" My bravary and logic told me to walk up to the rat and smack him with my invisiable club of wriath until he is vaporized. I started clicking on the Rat really really fast, only to see it having no effect. Then i clicked once, and the character hits for me while i look at porno sites and level up. I guess the makers of the game wanted a user-"happy" enviroment, where everyone wins!!

After i finally killed the horrible rat, i was surrounded by those guys wearing gang colors. they quickly formed a squarish Circle around me, and proceed to loot my dead rat of all its filthy treasure. while i was stuggling to get free, two other guys moved in and started to gangbang me. I closed the game right then and there. I never knew what happened to my character, and chances are that everyone is probably gangbanging my corpse right now.

JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!! I FEEL SO DIRTY AFTER PLAYING THIS GAME!!!

Lunerfox's Total Score: -50 (out of a maximum of -50)

i was playing this game called Dofus (google it) when it was in it's Beta stages (which it is until the 1st). But since it's going to be 5 usd a month i decided i should quit because i can't go anywhere.

The graphics are pretty damn good. And the flash version runs damn well too.

For shooters, I would recommend:

Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. Free, fast-paced multiplayer action with multiple character classes, etc...you know the drill. It's basically 3D soldat with character classes and unique objectives in each map, but no jet boots. It's set up so that you play different missions (default at 3) across two different campaigns (most servers just push them together to have one big six-mission campaign, though). Over the course of that campaign you can level up different aspects of your character a bit (accuracy, carrying capacity, ability to spot disguised enemies, and many more).

A basic mission on an ET server could have you protecting a tank by shooting the enemies in the way, manning the MG42 on it, reparing it as the enemy's rockets cause it to stop, diffusing enemy mines in it's way, and building bridges to help it on it's way. You would then use it to blast down walls to a compound where you either rig explosives to destroy an oil depot or steal gold and place it on a truck to hightail it out of there. Meanwhile, you've got artillery men calling in air support to bomb your ass, covert ops who snipe you or sneak up on you disguised as an ememy and pull a one-hit knife kill to your back, crazy players with flame throwers that roast you alive, rockets that blast you where you stand, engineers that shoot grenades at you and plant mines in your way or destroy your bridges and respawn locations, and medics who are continually bringing the dead enemy back to life all around you. Needless to say, I love this game.

Or you could try America's Army. Whereas Enemy Territory focused on intense action with respawns and other tech innovations, America's Army is all for the realism. You fight online in three different squads (about four players each, usually, for the assault teams and three players in the sniper squads, plus a command squad of it's own) all either defending the objective or attacking it. No respawns here. You get hit and you begin to move slower and your accuracy gets significantly lowered. You could then compensate by crouching or going prone, but if you're good you should already be doing that.

To contrast with ET, a typical mission in America's Army for the assault team would involve running up the middle of a bridge and quickly tossing a smoke grenade to obscure your attack. As you move around the sides, heavy machine guns will lay suppressive fire down the middle of the bridge to scare any defenders from returning fire (nearby enemy fire also lowers their accuracy) and one sniper will cover your back to make sure the enemy doesn't sneak up on you while another will move up front to take out unsuspecting enemies from the edge of the smoke that's billowing out. By now the smoke has run out and you're taking cover from enemy fire behind cars (remember that one headshot can take you out) that are lying in the road. You'll toss a flashbang in front of you to blind any nearby enemies while a buddy will throw a grenade into a nearby window to flush out or kill the snipers. Then you'll run up the middle and take out any straglers that got the brunt of your flashbang and either sweep up the nearby buildings or make a mad dash towards your objective to end the mission.

The defenders have it a little easier: they can just lay down a swath of bullets to impede the assault team's progress, but those smoke grenades will allow the enemy to advance without them seeing. So the defending snipers have to have a vigilant eye as the assault team snipers will try to sneak up to the edge of the smoke where they're barely visible and take a nice, clean shot without the defenders even seeing them.

Keep in mind that there have been upgrades since I last played that add new special operations missions with much more open space and freedom of movement (but this also means freedom for the enemy to snipe your ass from a distance or for some lucky (Please refrain from swearing) to climb a hill near you and nail you with a grenade gun). However, you won't be playing these missions at first because you have to train for them...but then again, you also have to train to become a basic sniper or a medic and even just to begin playing the game. It's supposed to be a realistic game that takes you through what being an actual soldier would be like, and it does just that (but in considerably less time and with less effort). Most of the servers are blisteringly fast -- there are hundreds of top-quality servers run by the US Government, so you won't ever have a lack of choice...but I don't know if you're in the US, so your choice of servers may then be limited. MM has talked about playing this game and he's all the way in Poland, so if you have any trouble finding European servers just ask him.

WoW, if you're willing to cough up the dough. FFXI is quite nice too., but once again, is quite costly.

If otherwise, I'd suggest the 1st and 2nd phantasy star online games, and the upcoming phantasy star universe. For online action games, UT2004 still amazes me with it's depth and amazing mods. Quake III is a step below that. Call of Duty for more realistic things and, dare I say it, play counterstrike: source. The games is much easier and fun than 1.6 and the community is infinitely nicer and more helpful.

FREE STUFF:
try newgrounds, they come out with some REALLY addicting games time and time again, espeially their raiden and 1942 style top down shooters. Speaking of which, ROMS are your friend. Snes roms, like meandor suggested, and there are some gems for gba as well.
+Both Golden Sun games, amazing RPG's
+Both Fire Emblem games, if your prefer more srategy based RPG's
+Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced, good, but if you can get the original FFT for ps1, then that is much better.
+Get the metroid games for gba, fusion and zero mission. Both of which are comparable to the awesomeness of super metroid, which I also suggest.
+Riviera is recent RPG that has totally sucked me in. It's a different twist on it, and contains *mmehenmmm* "suggestive themes". Pienne would like it, if you catch my drift...

SNES RPG's are the best RPG's I have ever played.
So:
- Tales of Phantasia: Never released in the US probably due to its swearing and sexual content (no, nothing hardcore, mostly sexual innuendo and this horny old man). This game has all the necessities, including the big bad magical dude and time travel. (sexual fantasies free of charge!)
-Breath of Fire/Breath of Fire 2: Good RPG's, I remember playing both of them, and one of them had a kind of stupid beginning, but ah well.
-Chrono Trigger: Duh, this game is just freakin fun.
-Earthbound:I don't think I ever beat this game because I got distracted by another game, I hear it's good though. :D
-Final Fantasy yadda yadda(all of them): Yeh, some of them are better than others, I remember one of them being disgustingly difficult at the beginning.
-Lufia/Lufia 2:Yeh, they're good, all SNES RPG's are good.
-Secret of Mana/Secret of Mana 2(Seiken Densetsu 3):Yeh, good series, get this stuff now.
-Secret of Evermore:Hey, another game with 'Secret' in the title, this one has a dog in it, so yay. And there's a bit where you lose your weapons and beat enemies with a bone. Not the best though.
-Soul Blazer/Illusion of Gaia/Terranigma:I'm just gonna assume that you know these games are good.
-Ogre Battle:I can't think of anything else different to say on this one, has really good graphics though.
-Robotrek:Not super-amazing, but it's still fun to play.

This is actually a lot more than I first thought. Basically, the SNES kicks a lot of ass.

Do try to get translated Japanese versions where applicable and possible, they always have more content than the US versions which of course is good!

I suggest Battlefield 2. It's divided into classes that have their own role(and equipment). The classes are really well balanced out and each on needs each other to work effectively.

The graphics are absolutly stunning. I have not ever gone bored after playing a single map everytime. It's beautiful. However, this makes the system requirments really steep(minimum is 1.7Gb CPU and 2Gb ram) and it may be hard for you run it.

You rarely run out of action. The main objective of each map is to get all the flags on the map. To capture it, all you need to do is be in the radius of the flag. But thats harder than it think, with all the lead flying around.

The maps expand to the server player limit size. You can enjoy a 16 player game as well as a 64 player game in the same map. This nice feature also ensures there is less dull silence.

But what really shines is it's gameplay. It is really nicely focused on teamplay. First of all there is a commander who oversees the whole battlefield that make orders and arranges plans. He can also send scouting UAVs, bombard them and drop ammo crates.

Next, the standard fighting unit is a squad. It has 1~6 soldiers of various roles that are highlighted through the HUD. It is so easy to spot where and what your squad members roles are. The squad leader can assign objectives and serves as a spawning point himself(jump right into the action next to the leader!).

Finally with various vehicles that can be manned wtih more than a single person, crews of vehicles work best when they cooperate. For an example, the buggy. A buggy jeep can run across the map quickly, but with low armor it is fragile. However, with an engineer riding in it the vehicle's hitpoints recharge. Also, with 2 mounted MGs, when they are manned the buggy becomes a man eating machine.

Like one guy said before me, Americas Army is the way to go. He covered most of it already, but there is a few extra points I would like to put out.

-Up to 32 players in a game (On Government servers, very little lag)
-Emphisized use of iron-sights
-Fast paced in a way. (Explain down below)
-Can be an Advanced Marksman (there are NO SNIPERS in the game...)
-Can be a Combat Lifesaver (can't revive people, explain below)
-Can be Special Forces (after passing a multiple choice, and then a field exam)

The game is fast paced, but not close combat. On a map called Bridge Crossing, there is a simple bridge with cars in the middle. Offense meerly has to cross the bridge, defense has to stop them. In the begining of the game, the middle of the bridge is crazy. Your teams two SAW holders fire into the fog towards the other side of the bridge, whilst bullets from the enemy doing the same thing are whizzing (some hitting) by your head.
A very unique system is in AA. AA is used as a recruiting tool by the Army, so in the game you will NEVER play as a guy with an AK. What the game does is it shows your team in Army clothes, and the other team look like Opfor (ski masks and such) and be holding AKs, when in fact the other team on thier screens looks like they are the US and such.
Basically, both teams think they are fighting agaist Arabians in ski masks.

Combat Lifesavers (or commonly called medics) work in such a way...
When you get hit, you take instant damage, and KEEP BLEEDING. Sometimes you can get a minor hit, but if you got him in the leg you might end of bleeding to death. What a combat lifesaver does is he stops the bleeding. He does not "heal" you but he stops bleeding. You hvae 3 levels of damage, sort of like a life bar.
When your little icon is green, you are ship-shape (though you might be bleeding). When it is yellow, you are hurt. When it is red, you cannot run (if you press the forward button twice fast, you put down your gun and sprint) and almost dead. If you are bleeding, you go down the levels. Sometimes a bullet doesn't take you out of green, but if you are bleeding it might turn down to yellow after a while.
Your aim is also dependent on your status. When you are hit and bleeding, your character breaths really hard, so it is hard to line up your sights.

I have a Dell 2400 with NO graphics card at all and 512 of RAM and can run AA smoothly on the lowest settings. AA graphics are actually much better than other games that you can buy.

Americas Army is 100% free, you never have to pay for ANYTHING, unless you want to make a server.

Download the game and make an account (Profiles are not saved on the Computer. When you open AA, it loads your account from online. When you complete training, it is tracked online and not on your computer. This is to prevent exchanging and selling of accounts.

[URL]

Also, do NOT create your account on the forums. You have to make a GAME account at americasarmy.com. You'll find out what I am talking about.

Also, make sure you download version 2.4 (unless you are running linux, then you still have to use 2.3 or something like that).

Americas Army will suck in your life and never give it back.

America's Army sounds good. I'll try it out.

Edit: I just got America's Army to work and figured I would just go quickly go through the Basic Training. I got the first 3 done no problem (though I did the Marksmen one again to get Expert), however I encountered a problem at the 4th one, MOUT Tactical Training. I completed it, and the "narrator" guy said congratulations and all that, I pressed the save results button and everything looked good. However, when I went back to training to go on to the other ones, it said MOUT Training was not Completed, i.e. it still said 'Available' underneath it instead of 'Completed'.

This is really annoying, anyone else encounter this and know what's wrong?

I've checked the americasarmy.com forums and have yet to see an answer to this although 2 other people have posted it. There might be one hiding somewhere but their search function is offline.

Help me...please

I remember that, I did the first few training missions so many times before I figured out what the problem was.

You have to be online and logged in to save your results. Try logging in before the training missions to make sure that you don't go through the training for no reason. Also, make sure you have the latest version.

Ah, I see what you mean Vijcht, but it turns out that wasn't the problem.

However, s'ok because a moderator posted in one of the bug threads explaining that it had something to do with their accounts server having some kind of glitch in it. So, all I can do is wait, while not being able to play online.
