Tommorow I want to host a game for some of my friends in school.

Now, I have a 128k upload on my DSL connection? How much people can I expect to host before everything starts to get really laggy?

Mine seems to handle 12 ok at about the same connection speed... Anything more than that an things got a little flaky.
Then again, my comp sucks, I'll bet that had somethin to do with it [:P]

with 10 players on, the server spikes at around 17,000 bits per second but normally hangs around 6000

Exile, fancy doing a bit of maths and working out what differant connections would be able to handle(64k/128k/DSL/cable/T1 etc) (rembering that DSL and cable have dif. up and down speeds) and you can post it to the FAQ?

Assuming that Soldat measures the throughput correctly, then

17000 bps / 10 = roughly 17 KBps, easily handled by any broadband connection.

I'ld grab the stats directly from the switch but I have other things running on that particular machine besides the 6 Soldat servers..

BTW, I got the 17000/6000 figures just by watching the server for a bit. It is definetely not a scientific observation of fact!
