I'm not sure who here remembers me, but for those of you who know, I just got released from bootcamp and am back on, ready to roll... sort of. I'm using LAN Cafe computers. Expensive. But, hey, right now I'm going through Jump school, which is tough as hell. A third of the class was kicked out on the first day from not being physically fit enough and doing stupid things like falling asleep during guard duty.
As soon as I can, I'm going to buy a new laptop and try out this new version that came out while I was gone. Looks like a nice improvement. I'm looking forward to it.
Well, I gotta go, my LAN time is running out. Bye.

Yep, I don't get on much, because I'm using computers that I have to pay for by the minute at the arcades, here. 10 minutes to a dollar. So, sorry my replies take so long.
So, for several weeks, I won't be getting IRC or anything like that, though I plan on buying a laptop as soon as I get settled. I don't know an exact time, it's just when I get my duty station orders.
Yes, I do have lots of stories. I got to fire lots of cool weapons. The M-249 (FN Minimi), M-203 (Fires just like an M79, same round and everything), M-2 .50 calibre (the mounted gun on soldat), The AT-4 Rocket launcher (The generation above the LAW.) And of course the M16A4.
I also did a lot of nasty, grueling crap that made life miserable, like a 17 mile march with a 60 pound pack on my back and a weapon and helmet on me, from 21:00 to 02:00.
Whew. And now I am jumping out of airplanes. I am insane... arrrgh. But, I think once I make my first jump, my fears will go away. I've allready jumped from towers. I need to learn to trust my equipment.
I tell you what, the army had no qualms with letting you know that in the Infantry, you will probably kill, and you might die. And they teach you how to kill efficiently and with maximum effect. They even tought me some hand-to-hand combat.
Anyway, my replies will take me a while to get to since I don't make many trips to the arcade during the week. But feel free to post, sonce I will certainly see it every several days at least.
In the meantime, feel free to ask questions.

35 ft towers, so far, on a zipline with a simulated parachute harness.
I don't have a "team", yet, just other students getting instructed. My superiors are firm but not too unreasonable... they are simply instructors, we do not work together.
If I continute my SF training pipeline, I will not be able to play soldat hardly ever and will rarely get online here to talk to you guys. So, we'll see what happens.

Hey, welcome back, guy. Don't know ya, you don't know me...but it's good to have you back anyway. Hope everything goes well with your training and your deployment (if and when you get deployed). You have something to be truly proud of in being in the military. Anyone with the courage to enter the military, particularly in times of war, is a commendable soul. I would salute you, but I'd probably just do it wrong. Good luck, hope to see you around the forums and ingame!

I do my first plane jump on Monday (at the end of this weekend). I didn't do those big 250 ft towers because they're old and they take too long to set up. Oh well, less crap to go through.
I'm considering dropping my Special Forces deal because during this time of war, if I made it (and I think I probably would), I would be gone eleven months out of every year. No family, no friends, no motorcycles, no soldat, ect. I can handle being a soldier, and I have seen some very rough times through my training, but I'm ready to get this show on the road (2 years of very tough training seems like I'm shooting myself in the foot just for a spot in a spec ops unit), and am considering waiting untill I become a sargeant and then voluneering for Special Forces through the normal program.
I've had a lot of positive and negative comments on this thought, but quite frankly, Airborne Infantry is pretty elite as it is, and once I get my bearings (and more meat on these bones) I can go for it with more skill.
Some have told me that by dropping it, I'm a quitter. But, I'm trying to do the wise thing. I think that once I get my bearings, I'll have a better chance of making it and a better understanding of whether or not I even want it. For as long as I've been here, and as much as I've done, I'm still unfamiliar with the normal Army and have several personality flaws I want to eradicate before I go SF, because I know that they will become major weaknesses.
God, I miss soldat.
I plan on buying a new laptop so that I can play soldat and get back into the soldat community, but I couldn't do that for a LONG time if I continued my training pipeline. I want to throw down in some soldat again with you guys, even if I wasn't that good.
And I want to make some more soldat art like on my sig and avatar, with perhaps an airborne infantry theme.
*Airborne!*
Well, keep the posts coming. Any advice would be appreciated.

No gostek, it's standard Soldat graphics. I just am very good at...manipulating screenshots.
I finished my last jump. That was so incredibly awesome.
I also cancelled my SF contract, to hold off untill I become a sargeant.
I really love doing that soldat art. Unfortunately, I don't have my own operational computer, and won't for some time. So Soldat and the associated fanart will have to wait.
I am considering altering my "spartans" theme to something a bit different, though I don't know what. Unfortunately, soldat doesn't have enough character appearance customization to satisfy me, but I'm considering going for a airborne theme.
I have found though, that the "spartans" uniform is very good camo for the sprites through most maps, since the deep grey appears as picture outlines or tree trunks. Like, "Para Assault: Feet First Into Hell!" and maybe a group of guys landing from the little soldat chutes, I dunno. But I am quite fond of my current GFX.
Woot. Just a few more weeks untill I get some internet and can spend all my time on Soldat, Japanese porn, and guns.

Onto IQ, I thought Americans had an average IQ of at least 100. At least mine's 132(did a test 3 months ago). Anyways, IQ doesn't matter that much.

There are a few large IQ tests and I'm pretty sure that the big ones are standardized based on your age. For instance, if you're 12 and you score a 108, you may still know less than someone who scored a 90 but is older than you.
But keep in mind that IQ tests are inherently biased towards a certain demographic and that online tests are usually just a sham. A pertinent quote: "Although online IQ tests have become wildly popular with the explosion of the internet in recent years, they are highly inaccurate. Comparing results among a large set of people shows a common factor: most scores are above 110." So you actually scored less than the average for online tests.
Now UGK and Green Barret, your penis won't grow any larger if you keep posting your IQ scores...I only posted those original scores to shut UGK up but he didn't seem to get the point.
Back on topic...Liero, if you're just chilling in your barracks, are you done with training or what?

September 20, 2005, 11:56 pm
Yes, I'm chilling. Well, actually pulling girlie detail work (can't use the real word), like watching a welcome desk or mowing grass, untill my orders come in.
I have my wings, I'm getting them sewn on as we speak. and my laundry is in the machine. I bought myself a laptop so that I can roll out soldat as soon as I get a internet connection where I am going.
Actually, I say the M-16 in reference to any M-16 series weapon. I trained mostly on the M16A4, but even the M-4 sucks. The upper reciever design is inherently flawed.
Yup. Airborne infantry will keep my deployed to Iraq fairly often, but I'll still be around now and then when I am there. At least I am the most elite of the Army Infantry. Very few soldiers get this far. Even fewer make it into Special Forces, but the more I think about it, the less it appeals. I would do more humanitarian work that fighting. At least in Airborne Infantry I get to kick in doors and spray my FN Minimi (really).
Vijchtidoodah
September 21, 2005, 4:37 am
Meh, if it were me I'd go do the humanitarian work...then not only can you gloat and be proud about your higher status as a soldier, but you can be the person who does some real good (and occasional ass-kicking).

That's what we in the military refer to as "supressive fire". The idea is that a single hit has a good chance of incapaciting real-life enemies, so if we make it go everywhere in the general direction of a group of people, you can pin them down or injure them instead of taking valuable time to line up a lethal shot.
Not just that, but a good SAW gunner should have no problem keeping a tight grouping indoors.
Green Barret
September 25, 2005, 2:44 am
Although almost all rifles in current service are automatic weapons, it is the SAW(in the American army it's the M249, a US version of the Minimi) that is refered to as the Automatic Rifle.
This is based of the tradition of rifles used as precision and direct fire weapons, whereas the SAWs were used as indirect weapons providing cover and fire power support. For example, the Americans used the semiautomatic Garand(M1) as the standard issue rifle while the BAR, firing bursts, covered the role somewhat of an automatic rifle, similar to the position SAWs are used today.
This way of fighting has not changed ever since the doctrine of the SAW as an important role was created. Even if the basic rifle issued to every fighting unit can fire full automatic, it is mostly used in single fire mode for better accuracy and less consumption of ammunition. Heck, America's army has even changed a fire mode, aside from single, from full automatic(from Vietnam era M16 to M16A1) to 3 round burst(current issue M16A2 and all versions after it) for that very purpose!
When automatic fire is needed, the M249 is takes the offical role.
That's why the SAWs are better and used more often as CQB(close quarters battle) weapons than the common M16A2(or A3)s.

M16s suck? KALASHNIKOVS ALL THE WAY!!!
what exactly is wrong with the M4 anyway?
anyway, welcome back, and is the recoil from a gun as bad as i think it is?
lieroguy
September 27, 2005, 1:32 am
M4 is basically a M16 carbine. Actually, that's exactly what it is. An M-16 with a shorter barell and a telescoping buttstock. What's wrong with it is evident when you take it into war: Round too small, failure rate too high, difficult to maintain, forward assist and dust cover are there to solve it's laughably weak constiution, and they don't do a very good job at that.
Recoil is as bad as the round you are firing is big, and the weight and support of the weapon you are firing. Generally, weapons like they Steyr AUG and the FN Minimi don't have much recoil because the round is very light. But even though the round for the MP5 is even smaller, the smal, light gun does not absorb nearly as much force, so it feels about the same.
SPARTAN_III
October 1, 2005, 6:24 pm
liero, you seem to contradict yourself there...fist you say the round is too small, then you say it's too big.
