Your city at 6:30am

About a week ago a couple of friends and I came up with the genius idea of meeting in Westminster at 6:30am to watch the sunrise, take some photos (One of them is a photographer: Example) and have a spliff to kick the ? "Let's go around London, stoned" - adventure off.

Two days later I get up at 5:00am, have a cup of tea and a smoke, cook my breakfast, take a shower, get ready and leave at about 6:00am.

You know you're up way to early when the corner shops are closed and the old-aged Americans with their brand-new-looking, white trainers are coming out of their Hotels saying "Hey [Dude], what should we do today?". Anyways, I put on my iPod and started listening to some Air. As I got onto the Underground what I thought was pretty funny was the contrast between me and everybody else on the Tube. Everybody else was in their suits, glancing over their Financial Times looking grumpy with the odd exception being the small group of American businesswomen holding their Starbucks coffees and yapping about what happened the other night. I seemed to be the only one smiling. It's pretty interesting to be listening to your favourite track whilst looking around at everybody, looking for clichés and things that separate you from the rest. The music goes nicely with it.

The tube stopped at Embankment at about 6:30, I got out and, still listening to my music lit a cigarette and waited for my friends to arrive. It was refreshing to be in the centre of the soon-to-be-awoken city of London at that time of the morning. The weather was pleasantly cool and it was so quiet, standing next to the Thames I could hear its polluted waters running through the city without its neighbouring (just as polluted) metal river acting as its voiceover.

10 minutes later my friends arrive and we head over the river towards Westminster; the final destination for most of the black and white outfitted commuters. On the way we had a spliff on the green next to the London Eye (That big round thing) which resulted in us sitting in the middle of a fork in the road in Westminster, watching people busily rushing by.

After that we continued walking around the Westminster area and its surrounding parks, exploring nice places to chill and taking photos. We stayed in St. James Park and had another spliff before going back over the river to the Mc. Donalds for some munch.

The second picture is just random. That guy was the only person dressed in a suit not rushing around. He looked like he was going to jump off, standing like that in the early hours of the morning on a London bridge, so I thought I might get a photo before he did.

We went back to St. James Park and started throwing this thing, which I don't know the name of, to each other. Basically it's round, slightly bigger than a tennis ball, but it's composed of rubber bands sticking out all over it. Anyways, it's actually a load of fun to do when you're stoned, so we got carried away and ended up doing that for almost an hour. I think we had a spliff after that...and explored some more areas...erm..

We wound up going to Canary Warf; a semi-island in the river Thames and the work place of the rich. This place is the sh*t of business areas. First of all it's on the most modern underground line; The Jubilee and its stop is like some [CENSORED]ing space station it's so modern. Notice the light on the elevators; above them is a massive window covering most of the entrance.

Secondly, connecting the station is a maze of underground, consumerised, 5-star hotel lobbies that lead to a massive underground shopping centre. In the 'Hotel lobbies' there were high quality shops and kinda like 5 star restaurant take-outs, where they cooked the food in front of you. We explored this place for about 1 hour, just getting lost and munching on all the good food. For some reason I didn't take any pictures of all of this.

Above ground was just as amazing. It was like a futuristic city complete with suspended monorails, a damn stock market ticker slapped round one of the buildings, small parks, impressive buildings, you name it.

We stayed there until about 5:30pm before making our way to the best place to relax; where I used to live before we went broke. It's a modern development called Kew Riverside, made up of houses and flats, plus a gym with a swimming pool and guards. It's basically like a little village. It's also right next to the river, quiet and safe as hell.

One of the best things about it is the grass there. It's not the type that was grown from the ground where it sits, rather it came in squares that you place on the ground, so this grass was perfect, as though you were lying on a mattress. I almost fell asleep. It's especially nice at night when the lights come on around the compound and it's unusual silence goes well with it.

I can't remember how many spliffs we had or how long we stayed there for, but that pretty much sums it up. The main point of the trip was to step back and take a look at the city around you, it's people going about their busy lives, how it functions and things you wouldn't normally notice, while you're there without a care in the world. Many of you will probably say this is another one of my "stoned adventures" and to be honest, yes it was, but it was good fun and interesting so I thought I might share it with the rest of you.

You should make more of these so people can play drinking games with whenever you have a spliff.

If I can ever get hold of a digital camera and some spare time in the early hours of the morning, I'll do this in York. Its a really historical city, it would look amazing.

I should do this in my town. There are some great photo opportunities. Sculptures with advanced lighting etc.

Then they'd die of alcohol poisoning.

London is exactly the same as San Francisco. It just smells worse and the women aren't anywhere near as pretty as American ones.
