i think you should be able to see what you poly would look like without having to make one, i there should be a little picture beside the colour chooser (see picture) it should show what the poly would look like whenever you change a point colour and also show your poly with the texture you have (see picture)

Might be nice, but you can easily experiment with different colors as is. No need to add something new for something you can already do.
