This isn't some ad for a free DVD player, so all you bums that were attracted to the word "Free" like flies to a cadaver should just move on.

I'm allowing the rest of you to stay. For now.

On to business: I recently downloaded a DVD rip onto my computer. As most of you know, this involves an .img file -- I didn't. Now I'm stuck with four and a half gigs worth of movie and no way to play it. I do not have any blank DVD discs, nor do I even have a DVD drive.

Turns out that google is not my friend this time around as it only wants to guide me towards the fastest way to voluntarily install ad and spyware onto my compy. So, does anyone know of any good programs that'll run and play a movie from an .img file in much the same way that Alcohol or Daemon tools runs CD images?

Only if I downloaded the .img ill-eagley. As it were, let's assume that I'm backing up a DVD that I already own but, for reasons unknown, am unable to play.

You should get yourself a virtual drive... Daemon Tools is free and nice...
For playing the DVD I'd suggest the free version of Power DVD 6 Deluxe I have on my computer.

If you can get yourself a movie on the Internet, it won't be hard to get yourself a 'paid copy' of a DVD-program.

I use Daemon tools for games, but that doesn't work when I want to play DVDs. For that, the VideoLan player can play .img files as video, so get that..

You can use VLC to open ISO / VOB files, you you might try opening the IMG with VLC too, although I doubt it'll work.

Fake edit: Hi n00bface.

I'm not sure if this falls under the .img category, but you can also use VLC to play .bin movies.

Thank you, Alamo, DVD 6 Deluxe is perfect.

Star Wars Episode III was better than I expected, but that's not saying much. Perhaps I'll find a better DVD to use it on later...
