The law books appear to be fuzzy on this one, so im sending forth my minions in search of answers. i have the 2005 edition of california law on knives and firearms, and there is very little about daggers/combat knives. it appears that as long as i keep my knife on my belto ut in the open as i have been, it's legal. The only thing is, police keep stopping me and telling me they're going to confinscate it and "tell my parents". today i was damn near arguing with an ocifer until he asked his buddy and they let me continue on. so, can anyone find any laws in california saying this is not legal, or shall i carry a copy of "Penal Code 12020" on me at all times in my wallet?
(i carry my hk5699, not even that big.)

Try asking these people.

As for personal opinion, stow away the knife. California law is written so loosely that they can fine you for just about anything these days.

well i actualyl do use the knife every damned day all over the place, without it i'd have been pretty [CENSORED]ed in alot of cases. it's out in plain view and everything, but it's not like im taking it out and carving up hookers, it's a legit thing. and i may as well use this one, as anything smaller doesnt have the features...

In Georgia it goes by inches, so many inches is legal, or at least thats what I was told you might want to look into that.

The problem with keeping a blade like that in your backpack or "hidden" is it becomes a concealed weapon.

Honestly dude it's legal to walk down the street with a Katana strapped to your back, so long as you arn't threatening people.

kinfe laws really only get fuzzy when we start talking about switch blades or butterfly knives (gravity knives).

actually those are the clearest there are in california :P
the knife's always on my hip, out in the open. i've continued wearing it, and havent been hassled for a few days :) problem solved, nothing to see here folks, show's over.

Gravity blades, by law, are defined as a type of switchblade. Switchblades are illegal (except for private possession, I believe) therefore gravity blades are illegal.
