Open the port that server uses to send map/texture/etc. files.
That would be game port + 10
So if your server runs on 23073, both ports 23073 and 23083 needs to be accessible for it work correctly.

EDIT. Actually, you can modify the file server port, check soldat.ini for ClientPort

Make sure the port (23083) you opened on your router (if you use one) is set on TCP.

Ok I just opened up the port and i ran my server and I got this message in the server window

Connection for file server started. Port:23083

So i went to go join the server...however, it said that the map still could not be found and would not download it. My .ini has allow download at 1 and the two ports at 23073 and 23083. I have no idea...please help hehe

From the manual:

The Soldat server uses the following ports:
UDP: game port (default 23073)
TCP/IP: admin port = game port (default 23073)
TCP/IP: files port = game port + 10 (default 23083)

The "Couldn't download map" was a bug, I am not sure if it still persists.
I used to get it until the current server version as well.

If it just says that "Cannot find", then that's what it probably means.
Make sure that the map you have in the mapslist actually exists.

make sure you have all the files that the map needs (on the server) and make sure that they're all named properly. also make sure you have the newest version of the server

well you can't choose the map if you don't have it in the server? The maplist is only default maps, in this chase I ment when you do /map command, and if the map file ain't there, it won't load, also missing sceneries should appear as white boxes.. right?

Yeah, I've got the same problem. Some maps are ok, but other ones like ctf_afghanistan say "Couldn't download map". I have got the map and it's in the maps directory, and I've got ports 23073 and 23083 open

well, the problem was not the "Couldn't download map"/"wrong map version found", the problem is that it won't download any files, and as ramirez says the "Couldn't download map" is a bug..

the ports open should be 3456 and 3466.. but still doesn't work..

Hi, Kay well I've checked the .ini file and yes my default port is 23073 and my client port is 23083. I even checked to see if "allow download" was enabled, and it was set to "=1". I don't know what to do. I don't have a router but I was fooling around with my modem. I tried opening a port ( port forwarding ) for it to see if that would help but it was pointless. In the server setup I don't see the "allow download" in the network settings. Do you only see it once you have registered? Is that my problem; do I need to register first? I'm out of ideas here. Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Justin Bull

never set any of the ports in the ini file to 32083 that is your problem right there when you do that you make a port conflict with the map download port.

Port=23073
JoinPort=23074
ClientPort=23053

soldat is set so that the download port is always 10 ports above "port"

I think I have the same problem.. I turned off my firewall and I see people trying to connect but they cant join the game when I have a certain map loaded. How to I open the download port? Where do I go to change it?

JoinPort=23062
ClientPort=23051
