Alpha layer with PNG without Photoshop

Is it possible? I've tried Irfanview, but I can't seem to do it.

No I mean PNG semi-transparency. But thanks for trying. Irfanview does that already. =]

And no, I don't think GIMP does semi-transparency.

The GIMP does in fact support alpha transparency. I use that and Inkscape for almost all of my images.

Here is an image that I snapped of Polyworks and made alpha-transparent with GIMP.

[IMAGE]

It should look fine in modern browsers. If you're still using IE, upgrade for god's sake if not just to view transparent PNGs.
