I have a few questions here thats been buggin' me for a while now.
Whats the meaning of life?
Err...Ok, seriously. Here's what I need answered.
First the serious questions.
1. The spas, when you reload and happen to fire during reloading, your bullet will always shoot to the front of your character, regardless of where you're aiming. Was this done on purpose, to keep the "power" down a bit? Or is this a bug? Kinda bugs meh a bit when I'm at the end of my rope and I'm frantically shooting to live when my shot goes off in the wrong direction -_-
2. Can the barret be binked while the sniper is airborne? When I unload a clip to a sniper on the ground, their shot will just slant off, away from me...SO most likely I binked them. But when they're airborne and I fire at them, they seem to have no problem sniping me...
3. Does bink or movment accuracy do [CENSORED] on the m79?! While I was modding weapons one day, I saw that it has 45 bink and 3 movement acc....but m79'ers have no problem charging at full speed, blasting you and cont. running off. And bink doesn't do crap whether they're in the sky or on the ground.
4. What's up with the flamer being soooo useless? I remember a guy with the flamer attacked me, but my health wasn't effected...AT ALL. It remained full! And this happens ofton... The flamer never kills, or even wounds for that matter.
The not-so-serious questions.
5. Why people be hatin' teh mp5, man?
6. WHY IS THE MINIGUN SO UNDERPOWERED?! >_<
7. Why do you people ONLY use the m79, but nothing, and I mean NOTHING else??
8. And what the hell is up with you people going on with the "autos take no skill" crap. Every single bullet of mine can og through your ass from a distance and yet you 79'ers just go on with the insults -_-
9. Why is it everytime I kill a guy with an automatic, you have to go "sprayer" Regardless of how accurate I was?
Unrelated to Soldat questions.
10. What's it like to fire a bullet in space? I've pondered about this for a while...
11. Speaking of bullets, how far can one go before it just slows down and stop. (on average)
12. And...what's the meaning of life? :)

1. Intended. It came up during the beta sessions, and Michal didn't fix it. It's a balance feature. ( just tap the grenade button, that stops reload and you can shoot accurately. )
2. Yes, it can. It's most likely that he started charging before you hit him, that's why he can splatter your guts wide on the top of ctf_run.
3. Indeed, it's as effective as going to war with a lawnmower.
4. It seemed pretty darn effective last time I checked, maybe it was on a bugged server?
5. Because it's annoying to get hit by a curtain of bullets. That's why.
6. "Hey guys, I think minigun needs to be a serious weapon, and I've came up with the following ideas to unnerf it..." Sounds laughable? It sure was during the beta tests.
7. I use barret and ruger. You might want to check the IRC community, where people aren't on the level of Major[PL].
8-9. The important difference between the good and the bad is that the good don't whine. Unlucky for us that the majority of the community consists of 'extra-crap' players. /mute is your friend.
10. I'd imagine the bullet wouldn't leave the gun.
11. It would fall and slide a bit on the ground, I'd say around 200 meters? I'm most likely wrong though.
12. 42.

1. It doesn't shoot directly in front of the player, it shoots exactly where the weapon is pointing. It happens with all guns; just most noticeably with the spas due to its unique reload. I personally find it annoying, though understandable. I can live with it... just.
2. Yes, it can. Use an auto (ie: steyr). Sometimes I think the bink just doesn't work at all though. I shoot a bunch of direct hits with the aforementioned weapon, and absoluetly nothing affects the barreters shot.
3. I've noticed it, barely, about once (and I have used it for more than 5 minutes in one session).
4. To me, I think there has something to do with lag. Sometimes it deals what seems to be too much damage, other times it does virtually nothing at all. Depends on what your ping is and your targets.

Demonic did a good job covering all of the questions except these two (which I know are right)
10) the bullet would go on forever because there is no air with which to have friction and slow it down
11) A bullet will be in the air for as long as it takes to fall to the ground, so if I were to hold a bullet in my hand and drop it at the same exact time that you shot a bullet from a gun at the same height as i was holding the bullet, they would both hit the ground at the same time. Because of this, it is pretty safe to say that a bullet will go however far it can in the time it takes to drop to the ground

OH YEAH! I forgot about that. No friction in space, bullet would contiue on. Heh, How did I forget that?
Heh, sweet answers guys :3

It does get binked, you might just miss them... A good barret user knows how to counteract bink
According to Newton, an object in motion will stay in motion until an outside force is acted upon it..
So, the bullet would keep going at the same velocity until it hits something...
and I use most every weapon... Just to adapt to the situation.

5) Pfft, They only hate the MP5 because it rapes when the person using it is close. They can't handle 30 bullets going straight at them in less than 10 seconds. Also the fact that it reloads in lets say 3-5 seconds allowing another 30 bullets to come to them. There is no realistic reason why players should/do hate the MP5. It's like complaining about the Ak's long range. They don't realize the disadvantage of the MP5 being the short range.
9) Because you are probably playing on a public server where noobs just find little things to complain about. I say just mute them ehehehe.
10) I asked my Astronomy teacher like a month ago about this and she said it would come out but it would be floating like slow but still moving in the direction fired or something like that. I dunno I fogot.

Eh, miniguns fine. You just need to play on a really low ping server, or half your bullets are made of rubber >_<
Theoretically, if you fired a gun in space the bullet would keep on going and going for years until the minute particles in space slowed it down. But other factors might affect the gun e.g. the extreme temperatures you find in space. But I don't know what effect they would have on the bullet speed xD

Bug. MM said he'd never fix it so get used to it by tapping your "throw grenade" key right before you shoot.
quote:... 2. Can the barret be binked while the sniper is airborne?
Of course. It's never happened to you?
quote:... Does bink or movment accuracy do [CENSORED] on the m79?!...
It would if the projectile flew faster. It flies so slowly it hardly affects it at all (but it does a bit).
quote:... 4. What's up with the flamer being... useless?...
That's a bug 1.3.1 introduced.
quote:... 5. Why people be hatin' teh mp5...?...
Its bink is virtually nothing compared to its strength, ROF, and reload time. It needs to have greater bink.
quote:... 6. WHY IS THE MINIGUN SO UNDERPOWERED?!...
It's not. You're just not using it properly.
quote:... 11.... how far can [a bullet] go before it just slows down and stop...
Probably half a mile, I assume. It really depends on the weapon it was fired from, and at what initial speed, and how large & heavy the projectile actually is.
quote:... what's the meaning of life? :)
That depends on your religion. If you're atheistic, then that'd be Soldat. ;-P

A conventional gun wouldn't be able to fire in space, because of the lack of oxygen required to ignite the gas/gunpowder. Silly people.

Explosives, I made the assumption that the necessary oxygen would be inside the shell, otherwise I wouldn't be able to give any answer at all.

That isn't correct. It doesn't matter how heavy the bullet is. All that matters is how high up it is shot above the surface it will eventually land on (and the speed at which it is shot, but this is obvious). If I shoot a bullet at 500m/s and you shoot at bullet at 250m/s, and they're both shot at the same height, they will be in the air the same amount of time and mine will go twice as far (neglecting drag)

with number 1, you can press reload to make it stop reloading.
hmm, i want a lack of friction on soldat...
also remember the bullets shape would affect its distance too, and any bumps and other problems would probably affect how far it went.

nfsjunkie, thats why i always said neglecting drag. All of those things effect the drag coefficient, and it isn't worth explaining that all now

Unfortunately, a large amount of physics aspects apply to a bullet when it is fired. Most of the time, you can predict how far a bullet will travel by using a formula that resembles H1 = AT^2 + VT + H2, where H1 is the height you want the bullet to end up at (0, in this case), H2 is the initial height at which the bullet is fired, A is the acceleration (which should always be negative in this case), V is the initial velocity (speed), and T is the time (preferably in seconds).
But, there are also the interferences of things such as air current and aerodynamics of the bullet, etc. No real way to perfectly predict how far it will go.

er, kazuki. modelling the path of a bullet with physics is one of the simplest things in physics, and it is the first thing you do in any physics course. as for the rest of what you said, thats exactly what i said except without going into a lot of detail
Time to stop discussing the bullet stuff and focus this thread on the rest of his questions and the soldat conversation that should be here. The bullet questions have been sufficiently answered a couple times over now. Any other posts about the bullet questions after this will now be considered spam in the thread and the user will be warned as such

5. People don't complain about it as much now as in 1.2.1 and 1.3.0 because it's been modded so [CENSORED]ing hard.

7. m79 is being overused because of the new barret. its just an easier one-hit-kill weapon

Why do you have to be so smart? Seriously you make the rest of us look bad.
