Hi.

I'm hosting my server from my home, with a 512dsl.I've read that my server can hold up to 10 players in this forum. But it cat hold more than 4.Even if there are 4 ppl the ping can be "2000" :).When I connect to the net it says 524.000kbps.Can i check my speed anywhere and I use Soldats own dedicated Server and not default but new maps.

Hmmm. What are you running it with? Are you running it straight of soldat, or using 1.3.1 dedicated, or using the latest dedicated (download)? If you're in the server whilest running it, it will lag more.

is the 512kbit your download speed? If so (which is what it sounds like is the case), your upload speed is a very small fraction of that, and you will not be able to run a soldat server on it with more than 1 or two people, if that

10:1 download to upload ratio on a shared connection.
1:1 on a private connection :)

Wait! Who sad your connection speed is 524.2?? You can get DSL at 64K. Just because it is DSL doesnt mean it is fast.

Then,What Do I do now?Not run a server with my speed?

So, your going by the default set-up program speed as your internet speed? Please tell me your not on dial up...

Does your computer have to dial a phone number to get online? Is the phone line busy while your online?

I have 512 connection too, and at the old computer it was so lagging with 10 players when I made dedicated and went playing there.

But on my new computer I have 4 times more memory and running dedicated, it doesnt lag anymore so much, same connection. Playing in dedicated on same computer need lots of memory and power from your computer.

guys, 512kbit is your download speed. You have an upload speed which is usually much slower, and that is your problem. you cannot run soldat servers on connections this slow

512,000 bits is only 64,000 bytes
Which would mean your upload speed is about 15,000 bytes.
When idle you send about 2 bytes a second. When active its about 150 to 400 bytes. That would be per player.
250 bytes X 10 players is 2,500 to download from each player.

Then you need to send the location of each player back to the player who sent you their position.
2,500 of player info X 10 players = 25,000 bytes a second

Summary...
You can only send 15K byte a second on 512K bit connection.
To support 10 playes you need to be able to send an average of 25K byte a second.
Any questions?
