I don't really know if this is a bug or not, but here's what happens.

Some times, the sound freezes, making an incredibly annoying sound, then some time passes and the game locks up.

Some times, the sound freezes along with lock up INSTANTLY. I've tried quite a few things..

The error thingie (windows error report) says it has something to do with fmod.dll

I'm running on a Windows XP pc with 2,80 ghz cpu 512 mb ram and a crappy built-in graphics card. Direct X version is 9.0c

Mmm, run dxdiag and check if fmod.dll is not corrupted or something.

I'm no expert.. but maybe in the backround you are running laggy programs like, Limewire, Kazaa, msn, or maybe anything that will lag it up.... try closing them

I reinstalled the game.. It seems to be working well now.. I believe my fmod was corrupted.. There's no other answer.
